You have to decide which department you want to work in.
If it is Catering try Cunard, they have their own training school both in UK and in Los Angeles.
    Cunard.com look under `employment`.
On deck a little limited now. to be a Navigator then apply to a shipping Company under their apprenticeship schemes. Same as Engineering, usual some experience needed depending on your education qualifications.

Seafaring is not a job, it is a way of life. Not everyone is suited to it. You have to have the right mind set.
Also life at sea is not all plain sailing, there are bad times , Dangerous times, and good times.
the life is also dependent on the type of ship you are after. Not many runs ashore on an oil tanker or Container ship. Or in the North Sea. Think about it. The best times have been and gone. That is why we reminice on here.
I may sound a miserable old git but that is the game today.
    Good luck with your search.
    Cheers
    Brian.

    Hello Danny,

I started at sea as a cabin boy some 55 years ago, I would imagine things have change so much that I wouldn't know how to direct you how to start, but you will get good advice from the members here.
Please go with an open mind as it will be nothing like you yourself expect.
Brian is right, it is a way of life, you will have bad times, forget them, dangerous times, you get on with them and don't think about them at the time and as for the good times you will remember them forever.
I wish you all the best for you to get the career that you seek and that in 50 years time when most of us will have crossed the bar you are still member of this site giving out your wonderfull experiences that have yet to come.

    John Albert Evans.

What are your education qualifications, any work experience or a trade or any kind of interests.

    Thumbs up Welcome

Hi Danny and a warm welcome to the site. Thanks for stopping by to introduce yourself and your ambitions for a career at sea. As you have already found there are many only too willing to give you some good advice. Please tell us a little of your background and why you are considering going to sea and hopefully we may be able to advise you further. If you do realise your ambitions we look forward to hearing about it as you progress. It will be interesting for us old sea dogs to hear first hand the experiences of a modern day seafarer. Good luck whatever you decide.
