    Default Captain Robin Lees Hutchison

    Dear Brian

Thank you so much for your email. I am the daughter of Captain Robin Lees Hutchison (now retired) and, when I visit my Dad next weekend we will look at the site together and all the wonderful possibilities to connect with old friends.

My Dad was in the Merchant Navy for many years, travelled around the world six times and became Captain on the Clyde Steamers/Cal Mac when the family came along (back in Scotland). He continued to work after retiring, as skipper on the Hebridean Princess - he was a great captain, not only being a knowledgeable and confident skipper (was known as Hurricane Hutch at Cal Mac) but also as a great host where he entertained those (especially the ladies) at the Captain's table in the evenings with many tales of the wonderful (and sometimes colourful) crew members he worked with over the years as he slowly made his way up the ladder in a career spanning 50 years. He always loved the sea, and his work and I know he still loves to meet old friends he has known and worked with - he was a very much loved, respected and admired man - and still is, even without the boat under his feet!!!

My father was on the Hollypark in the early days - the sister ship of the Empire Heritage which was on the BBC's DIG WW2 programme last week. He called me about it and I looked it up on iPlayer yesterday. Ialso saw a couple of posts on the Empire Heritage when I joined you last night- great to see.

I hope you will respond to me and won't mind my joining in place of Dad as he doesn't really get the Internet yet so I am his guide.

I hope we will find his friends, his ships, like-mindedpeople because that's what gives life such meaning!

Can you post this for me perhaps whilst I get up to speed on navigating my way around the site? I'd be most grateful.

    Best wishes from

    Kay Hutchison

    Hi Kay,

May I extend a hearty welcome to you and your father, who does sound
very much like someone we would love to include in our number. You can
tell your Dad that on this site we are a mixed bag of seamen and others with a love of the sea and ships. We may not always agree but most of the time we get along wonderfully well together and I feel sure he will find much of interest, I certainly hope so. Anyway, welcome aboard to you both and may your stay with us be a long and happy one.

    ................best regards, Roger

    Smile Welcome

Welcome to the site Kay You and your father will, I am sure, find much on here to enjoy. If you have any difficulties at any time please don't hesitate to contact me and I will be more than happy to help you both settle in. With in excess of 7800 members it is quite likely that Captain Hutchison will come across some that he sailed with over the years. Good luck and happy browsing.
