Welcome from the sunny Meridian Isle of El Hierro!

Barnsley, I used to live just north of Barnsley in Clayton West, small world.

Default Long association with the Merchant Navy:

The town of Barnsley has a long association with the Merchant Navy, especially the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, through its affiliation with the RFA Fort Victoria.

Out of interest looked up SS BARNSLEY:

    Completed June 1876

Wrecked at Ilha do Maio, Cape Verde on passage St Vincent for Cape Verde.

LINK: ss BARNSLEY built by John Elder & Co Govan Clydebuilt Ships Database

    And:

HMS Magnet (formerly the Barnsley) was a British Bayonet Class boom defence vessel of 530 tons displacement launched in 1938. HMS Magnet had a top speed of 11.5 knots and was armed with a 3-inch anti-aircraft gun.
