went to the vindi jan 55. # R624276. first ship British Builder. After that sailed with watts watt, (grenwich) esso tankers, (esso exeter) elder dempster (cochran) Prince line (merchant Prince), Hudson line (hudson firth). City of London, (london to brussels). After leaving the sea, married and raised a family. But not having aland based trade found it hard to find work that paid any reasonable wage. So in 64 decided to relocte to Canada. In nov 65 Joined the provincial police in ontario and completed thirty years with them. now retired and living near Ottawa. The years at sea was a great education and a great mature builder. would not have missed it for anything, great memories.

Welcome aboard Stan, many of our old shipmates live in Canada on both the East and West side of that great country. Personally I opted for Aussie. I trust you will enjoy a good old natter and a few laughs, regards Neil.

re greenwich
hi there, thanks for the line. well the greenwich was an old liberty ship, which i joined in rotterdam, then to new orleans in ballast, loaded sulpher and went to oz an nz. back to the us coast and then to canada and then home.
She was not the most comfortable ship to sail or work on. we were away for about ten months. did'nt fancy a second trip to the far east under those conditions, so I paid off and went with esso tankers.

After MN could not settle in UK where the local shop steward of the union had more power than was good for the country, emigrated to South Africa , then Zambia , short stay in Canada (didn't like the cold ), back to SA and then Malawi building capital city power station at Lilongwe.
Did emigration paperwork via the nearest Australian embassy in Lebanon (took 18 months....no queue jumping then !)

east and west coast
Neil,
there are other parts of Canada apart from the east and west coast where british seamen have settled, try the prairies, many a seaman from the prairies were Merchant Navy both Canadian and British during the war and afterwards, they used to meet on a regular bassis on HMCS Chippawa, but not sure they are still going.
a welcome to the site to both of you, I am sure you will find it interesting and informative.
