Deaths at Sea
I am trying to find out if anyone knew my Grandfather who died at sea whilst serving in the Merchant Navy.His name was CHARLES ALEXANDER TORDOFF. He was killed whilst on board a cable ship off of the Canadian coast. Anyone who knew him or have any information about him please get in contact.

There will be people on here who may know something but will need more info, as a lot of us are not spring chickens anymore, but once our memory is jogged it is surprising what is revealed

Can’t find a Charles Alexander Tordoff ,
This may not be relevant however:-
From the index of Marine Deaths 1951 – 1955
There was a Norman A Tordoff age 39,death aboard the ship “John W MacKay” page 44
“John W MacKay” official No 146571 was a cable ship History of the Atlantic Cable & Submarine Telegraphy - CS John W. Mackay
According to the ships manifest Norman Alex Tordoff signed on the “John W MacKay” as Bosun aged 38, with 22 years service when signing in Plymouth 31st March 1955, his height was 5’ – 11” weight 168 lbs his place of birth given as Barrow, the ship arrived in New York 11th October 1955 having sailed from Halifax N.S. she sailed again on the 13th October 1955 for the High Seas
There was a Norman A Tordoff who’s birth is registered in Barrow in Furness in the June quarter of 1916 in volume 8e page 1304 mothers maiden name was Brown
