Lock them up
The first fleet that arrived her in Australia was made up mainly of prisoners.
They had been taken from the overflowing prison ships berthed on the Thams in London.
News correspondent today from UK said there is a prison problem in UK.
Currently some 86,580 are incarcerated with a further 12,500 who should be inside but no room for them.
The gov is considering a policy now in place with Poland.
They are sending their prison overflow to Sweden where the prisons have spare space capacity.
Of course they could go back to using ships, rather than send old ones to Alang, use them to house prisoners or illegals.
But make sure there is no propulsion available, we do not want any more of them down here in Oz.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Lock them up
At one time it was the only way to get into Australia, that or be transport or just starve to death in certain parts of the then UK.
Not only Ireland suffered also Scotland.
But help was at hand
A government enquiry could suggest no short-term solution other than reduction of the population of the area at risk by emigration to Canada or Australia. Highland landlords organised and paid for the emigration of more than 16,000.
Maybe transportation to the colonies may yet again be on the Agenda.

Re: Lock them up
Bibby's have had mirgrant barges in Hamburg for over 20 years. Not sure if they are still there. The germans used them as arrival centres before either rejecting them or accepting them asylum.
I was on the Bibby Endeavour in Hamburg doing relief cover for the barge master. 600 various nationalities, usual a couple of murders each week. The police had to ask permission from the German immigration service to board the barge. Usually a qiuck body bag and gone. Accommodation converted 20' foot containers. at that time Hamburg had 6 such barges alongside.
