Are today's cricket players a bit of a wuss?
The fourth ashes test, ended in a draw, was interrupted by rain delaying start of play on day 3 and due to the conditions it was decided that only spin bowlers would be used. Cannot think of any reason why fast bowlers were not used beyond possibility damage to the pitch. Not being a cricket fan can anyone shed light on this use of spin bowlers only.

I think the reason is that the fast bowlers can send the ball down in excess of 100mph, and with bouncers at head height, could do a lot of damage, the ozzies were very lucky this time, but there we go, they can go home and congratulate themselves.

Re: Are today's cricket players a bit of a wuss?
The rule used to be after a deluge you could fast bowl 'over' the wicket where your follow up run was away from the pitch but not 'round' the wicket where your follow up run took you across the pitch and you didn't haven't fancy head gear then, just your flat cap when it wasn't in the umpires pocket. Think wuss may be the answer as balls don't bounce too much on a damp pitch

Re: Are today's cricket players a bit of a wuss?
Dont know much about the Wuss but i have never really liked the Ruling on Rain affected Play! This one is a Typical example of it, as i feel that although rain will affect play at times, this gould not be in the favour of the side that is lagging behind. Why not have a better System that say goes on the average Run Numbers and wickets taken etc, and tabulate the result this way! As far as i see England really played far better Cricket in the Fourth Test and should have Won it, to level the Series , so thee could be a Hum Dinger for a Final fith Test that is still to be played!@ Now all we have is a no brainer ! Boring match to watch! My View only Lads!
Cheers

No surprise it was rained off, Manchester, Old Trafford gets a lot of rain anytime of the year. I do not know why they do not just add a day on if they lose a day due to rain. It will certainly have dropped ticket numbers for the 5th test.

John A
Maybe they could change with the women's team and wear skirts, save them getting their whites dirty, they are like a bunch of women when they get a wicket anyway, they should all man up and play rugby, now they play in wet or dry fields. Ops
