    Default Irish or eu madness

I tread where to comply with the orders of the Eu in reducing emissions Ireland plans to cull some 200,000 head of cattle!!

As one farmer said," this will be a modern day version of the potato famine"

People will leave the country and companies may follow.

The plan is to reduce the total herd size by 65% over the next few years.
Fine, but where do you get your beef from then?

Or your milk for that matter.
The methane produced by cattle is to a great extent absorbed into the soil allowing for regeneration.
Co2 in volume is absorbed by the roots of trees and plants then put back as oxygen.

So is the EU plan one to reduce the population by reducing food supply.

Could be, why is Bill Gates buying up farms in USA in large numbers?
    Happy daze John in Oz.

John , them must be clever cows , so when they fart it disappears under ground. Methane is lighter than air John. Have you ever been past a slurry pit? Standard notice in place is no naked lights in this area. Reason the slurry gives of Methane gas and Hydrogen Sulfide.
Yes slurry is used as fertiliser and will be absorbed into the ground with rain water etc!

Maybe it is the cunning french, a plot so the EU hvae to buy more french beef and screw the Irish.

#1, John what a diabolical liberty. The upper echelons of the EU are treating Eire akin to the runt of the litter. Hope they fight this decision or will they be forced to kow tow I wonder!

It is not just the Irish who will be reducing livestock.

Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg and the Netherlands accepted the position but complained about the weakening.

Poor old Luxembourg will be down to maybe one or two cows

See it would appear French are saying nothing and keeping their heads down.

Countries including Bulgaria, Germany, Italy and Poland pushed for fewer farms to be included, saying the Commission proposal was not realistic and burdensome for farmers.

I just got a email from a cousin in the UK, she has a job with a vet. The latest or on going fiddle is that when a cow gets TB the farmer must put it down and bury it for which he gets compensated by the Govt, she reckons there is a fiddle whereby the vet says a cow had TB and had to be put down when in fact it is probably killed and sold, then the Farmer and the vet are splitting the money.

James, have you ever seen 'Willow the Whisp"?

It is Methane burning with a light blue flame.
It can be seen in warmer weather on land that is filled with rotting vegetation.
Funny thing, it stays down, does not go up.

I just knew as I was writing it that I had spelt 'enterprise' incorrectly but the brain wouldn't correct it
