A story of an amazing coincidence
In the early days of courting the woman who is now my wife, I was to learn that her birthday was the 23rd of November.
I told her that I could guarantee that I would never forget her birthday, but apart from the happiness of her birthday celebration she would possibly see a little reservation in my own demeanor. I explained that this was also the date that my Great Grandfather was killed in action aboard the armed merchant cruiser H.M.S. Rawalpindi southeast of Iceland while engaging the two German pocket battleships Scharnhorst & Gneisenau.
I went on to tell her as much as I knew about the battle, the ship and the outcome. In doing so I told her that the ship's Captain (Kennedy) was the father of Ludovic Kennedy, the very well known journalist, presenter, author and broadcaster. "That's amazing" she said, followed by "I went to school with Ludovic Kennedy's daughter !
So, there's the coincidence.........my wife being born on the same date/month of Rawalpindi's demise and went to school with the Grand daughter of Capt. Kennedy.
