Electric con job
The argument about climate change/global warming continues with both those who agree and the deniers as called because they hold a different view continues.
The push for electric vehicles we are told is the only way to remove emissions from the atmosphere.
The socialist (Labor)feral opposition here in Oz claim that by 2030 there will only be electric vehicles and they will help save the world.
Both Ford and Toyota make 'Utes' the Ranger by Ford and Hilux by Toyota, neither company have any plans to produce these, their best selling vehicles, with electric versions.
Used mainly by tradies, sparkies, brickies, dunny divers and others they have become a symbol of excellence for these guys.
Toyota are encouraging the gov to install more Hydrogen filling stations as they claim it is the fuel of the future, could well be as Oz is to embark on a Hydrogen sales market with the concept of selling to other nations.
In the UK they have developed a Train, Bus and Truck all running on hydrogen, California has had a Hydrogen vehicle system going for some years now.
In Canberra there are a number of such vehicles being used by the Gov on a triail basis.
But are we being conned by the electric vehicle concept?
Such a vehicle requires the times the amount of Copper as to a conventional one.
The Copper has to be mined, rare earths are also required to manufacture the batteries.
During the process of building such emissions are created and it has been estimated by scientists it will require some 86,000 Kilometers to be traveled by a vehicle before it will absorb the amount of emissions created during manufacture of the battery.
But that in it's self bring about another problem.
By some 86,000 klm the battery may well be in need of replacement.
All batteries have limited shelf life and rechargeable ones reduce in efficiency at each recharge.
Once at a reduced rate of 60% efficiency the battery will have reached a point where it will be of little use in the vehicle.
In the USA batteries at this level are sold onto households to be used for Solar storage of power, but at 30% efficiency they are no longer of use.
They must then be disposed of in some manner no doubt creating more emissions.
So exactly what are the benefits of electric vehicles and who will benefit from them.
Sadly not the motorist, but the billionaires who fund and build such will. No doubt becoming trillionaires in the process.
There is now some very serious concern about the number of solar farms being built around the globe.
Many built on land making the earth below them inert and dead to the extent that if enough are built in this manner there may be serious consequences for the world. Added to which the black background of the reflects heat back into the atmosphere.
Is it time that we all took a good hard look at whet awe are being sold by these people, many of who rely on the ignorance of the population to do these things.

Re: Electric con job
As you say John, the science behind energy using electric energy is a con.
1) Trees are cut down in the USA, stripped of bark, dried, cut into wood chips, shipped across the Atlantic, burned in a power station-No Co2 emissions or minimal.
2) Rare metals for the magnetics in wind turbines and electric motors for cars, flushed from the earth using acids- environmentally friendly?
3) Cobalt mined by kids as young as ten for electric driven vehicles- you decided.
4) UK to replace all gas boiler with heat pumps- whole central heating systems will be stripped out- heat from heat pumps is low grade- larger radiators will have to be fitted.
5) Existing wind turbines cannot generate enough power in winter, coal fired stations fired up.
So who is conning who?

Re: Electric con job
The UK government is bringing forward the ban on sales of new petrol and diesel cars from 2035 to 2030. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced the 2030 ban as part of a package of green initiatives.
Funny that as John says Socialist (Labour Ferrol government) in Oz are following or leading a similar policy in Right wing Conservative Britain.
But I do agree that this race for electric vehicles is madness and yes someone is going to make a fortune. At the expense of the planet.
I was involved in a Hydrogen cell project on a BP LNG carrier 17 years ago. Nothing grand just a cell used to power a domestic deep freeze, not sure how it actually worked but it did work.
Or if we really do need to go green how about this as it is a win win,pony-trap-by-beach-xxx.jpg the exhaust by product can be used in the garden veggie patch, but I suppose it still does not solve everything as when the pony farts!!! what do we do with the methane (green house gas)could it be trapped and stored and used as fuel to heat green houses for winter crops?? No doubt James Dyson or Elon Musk could come up with an idea.

Re: Electric con job
To add to the situation France is to build and run 12 Hydrogen trains and will have them on the line by 2025.
Maybe they know something!!

We have a hydrogen bus in N Ireland on trial, hope they keep that away from the UDA gobshites, all we need is a hydrogen bomb on the peace line ffs!!!
The bus has been developed by JCB (Bamford family) they bought the Wright Bus company in Ballymena,

Well, at least it was not the Wright Brothers. LOL
But Hydrogen is begining to show more promise than electric but as is always the case it will take time.
One expert in the system said that once people come to realise the life expectancy of batteries Hydrogen will take off, no pun intended.
