All gassed up.
There is a global push for electric vehicles and the up take increases.
Here in Oz the state of Victoria is to put a kilometer tax on them to compensate for lack of revenue from fuel.
The socialist (Labor) opposition in feral parliament want to reduce the tax on such so on a $50,000 it would be $2,000 less.
But at the same time Toyota are in a big push for Hydrogen vehicles encouraging our gov to add more service points for this.
So far only two in Canberra but they want more saying the future lies in that not electric.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Apparently the lifetime carbon emissions from an electric car are much higher than a diesel (Skoda Octavia 2.0ltr diesel was best), I cant recall the name of the survey but they compared emissions for a range of vehicles including manufacturing process.

The same talk is happening here except it is miles, unless the BBC gets its way as they always say it is so many kilometres from A to C etc, I have yet to see a distance sign or speed limit in kilometers, but they will insist on using it.
In addition to that they are also suggesting that anyone over 70 to have all their cars fitted with trackers and they will be limited to a 30 mile radius of their address (if I head south I will be in France) also they will not be allowed to drive in the dark. These rules are being muted by people in their 30/40's who have no idea how astute over 70 year olds are. I agree to restrictions if you are medically or visually impaired regardless of age, but I am fed up being catergorised by someone ticking a bloody box against my age.
When I answer the phone and someone says can I speak to Mr Cloherty, I say 'speaking' and they say 'Oh you don't sound as if your in your 80's' I say 'what am I supposed to sound like, gasping for breath from the grave'

love that sentiment Ivan, what gets my blood pressure up is when you have to discuss something with the shop assistant or B&Q assistant , they repeat what they have said very slowly, as though i am bloody GaGa, i feel like answering them like Manuel in Fawlty Towers, kt

Re: All gassed up.
#3, I am 72 and I would put money on it I am a better driver now than I was when I was 17 all the way through until my late 20's. I am basing this on the fact when I was younger I went everywhere flat out. I was a good driver but just an idiot. One of the reasons I stopped riding motor cycles in 2020. I could still mix it with the young guns but thought I had pushed my luck long enough.
I must admit I do not like driving at night especially if it is raining.

Re: All gassed up.
Pretty much the same as myself Lewis, never road a m/cycle, but don't like driving at night, especially down our small country roads. I fully expect my insurance to go up now i,m 80, never ever had an accident, only one speeding ticket in over 60 years driving, and that was in NZ on holiday. but time now to be extra cautious, i had to stop driving for 6 months last year due to a cataract, and have had a detached retina in the other eye. Since my cataract op i get eye tests every 6 months, and up to now pass for driving, kt

Re: All gassed up.
Victoria, how could you taking advantage of your youth like that!!LOL.
Here in Oz it is a bit different as it is illegal to discriminate on grounds of age.
It does vary a bit from state to state but mainly you can drive as long as you are fit.
Me, I am a 16 year old with many years experience in so many different fields, thankfully not with the Sheep though.
As to the bit about emissions from electric cars.
According to a report by the AA in UK an electric car must do 80,000 miles before it is at zero emissions taking into account the amount of emissions during production particularly with the level of copper and rare earths used.

Re: All gassed up.
Also agree with many of these Posts , i am turning 81 in June, still feel like i am 18, and although i have taken the foot of the Pedal slightly these days, i am sure a much better Driver than in my Early Years. Like many i too was what we know as a Reve Head Kid, both with Cras and Motor Cycles.
Recall when i had my all Silver 500 Twin Matchless , used to go like the clappers, and only once had a bad spill, which was a good record then.
As for Cars, well i have had many (cannot recall just how many) and most all of them were either just plain fast, or suped up a bit.
My present Car the 2010 VW 118kw TSI (Turbo Supercharged Engine) is still a beast , but as said the foot is no where near as heavy as before, LOL
Unfortunately now though the Car has given me quite a bit of troubles, at present in the Mechanics Garage (locked away for the Weekend) due to a few faults being fixed.
So i think when i get it back next Week, i am now going to look at a New Mazda, just a small one though enough to get me through the rest of my Driving time!
By the way John, here is NSW they are still having to get a Practical Test at 85 and each year before that a Medical and Eye Test as well. So we are at the loose end ???
Grrrrrr!
Cheers
