#24. Life is a learning curve Cappy. Have to be a fast learner as is too short to enjoy the products at a later date. So maybe is better you take them first , and enjoy the memories when there is nothing left. In other words make hay while the sun shines JS

#22. John if I remember correctly when signing on a vessel you were asked to state your religion. As far as I know it had something to do with death at sea. ie. what prayers were said for the departed. An old Chiefy used to put down Buddhist, if it happened I won't be there but I would love to know how they would handle it.

Re: For lewis
A more practical reason may well have been that an employer didn’t want to employ someone who was going to disappear from his workplace 3 or 4 times a day To go for prayers, JS...

Re: For lewis
It seems today that people seem to think that an employer is imposing on their personal life.. To my way of thinking that same employer is paying you a wage and has every right to know all about you before he lets you loose into his place of work and business. Your cv is very important to him for numerous reasons. When submitting a CV I always put my religion down regardless whether asked for or not. It is nothing to be ashamed of whatever it is. JS

#28... Bill my knowledge of Buddhism doesn’t extend very far. I sailed with a chief steward from Cardiff who went through a Buddhist marriage ceremony in Japan. He was already married in Cardiff , don’t know if. He was breaking Buddhist laws but was certainly breaking Christian ones. Had an Australian married to a Buddhist lady in a certain group of men’s club who decided the club rules didn’t coincide with his beliefs so had to let him go. Spent a night in a bhuddist temple in Onahama ( Japan) with a wealthy Japanese friend and two Japanese housewife’s eating and drinking , the monks didn’t seem to mind. The only religion I have any knowledge of is the Christian one , and being a long time ago choir boy , may have a bit more insight to same than most. Cheers JS
As regards identification of bodies we grew up with fingerprints on Identity Cards , photographs, identity marks, scars ,tattoos, birth marks. Height weight etc. I would have no regrets on the same being the case today. I carry a card with my blood group on , a lot of people do, but there again I have nothing to hide because I wear trousers which hides all that should be hidden. Although there are some who wear dirty macs instead. Cheers JS.

Re: For lewis
Religion, the opiate of the masses as once said.
But to each his own, me right footer married to a left footer but we go to the church and there is no difference between the two apart from the smell of that thing they wave about.
But just think about it, without it there would most likely be no wars, no poverty and world peace d, oh I must be going mad to sat that.
But i do believe there is a supreme being out there, but if he has any sense will stay away from us down here.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: For lewis
There would still be wars John. Wars are caused by arrogant people who take what they want. They use Religion sometimes as an excuse. Look at the last war, every country involved in the conflict used God as their mainstay saying he was on their side. Maybe he was the one urging everyone to kill themselves, to save him the bother. You go into the Old Testament and see how people saw God 3000 years ago, then go into the New Testament and see how peoples views have changed with the times. So has Jehovah and all other relevent man made Gods. Religion is man made and used by man to suit his own ends. I am being anti PC here as should have included women as they seem to want equal ratings and are marching all over the world today to prove it. Every person should carry his own God with him at all times maybe human lifeform may last a bit longer that way. Cheers JS

Wars are caused by arrogant people who take what they want. Where do nations that became Empires fit in??? Build a navy and conquer the world.
