    Default For lewis

One for Lewis who is not sure if he is a Royalist or not but not bad sort of guy.

I can understand some of his dislike of the Englsh, they were not always squeaky clean.
From the time of Henry 8 it got slowly worse for so many.
The potato famine for many may well have been the last straw.

But in 1916 the uprising took place starting at the Dublin post office, not sure where there as the post in those days was good.

My father in law who had been in the Irish Republican Army, not the IRA, and who became a Gaurda
told me this story. Even though he had no love of the English he warmly welcomed me into the family.

The republican lost and 13 were taken into custody,12 were later hanged for treason amongst other things.

But there was the other by the name of Plunkett, just a young 21 year old printer and all he had done was print for the republicans their declaration of independence, for this he was sentenced to death by firing squad.

The night before his fiance brougt a priest and a wedding ring to the prison and they were married, allowed 15 minutes together with a guard standing by.
She never remarried and died in 1969.

As an ex Pom married to an Irish lady I feel for those poor souls, all they wanted was freedom, something all of us want. So Lewis you and me in some ways are not that far apart.

The British colonised so much of the world over the centuries.

But consider the empire as a human body, the head the Egyptian dynasty, the main body the Roman Empire which leaves the rest including the Colon, and we know what comes from there.
Well the British put plenty of it out onto other countries,

No doubt that is why it is known as Colon isation.

And no we do not need a cut and paste on this story.

Thanks Marian , enjoyed reading that and your description of how it was is spot on. Agree young people just want to get on and enjoy their lives. As in all societies there are those who will always get up to no good and are easily led.
Sadly here you have at least two political parties whose very existence depends on maintaining distrust and the last thing they want is political harmony.

John I can assure you I am not a bad sort of guy, but can hand on heart say I am not a Royalist. I do not dislike the English, my wife is English, my son is English they were both born in England. I lived in England on the Wirral for 40 years. It is English arrogance I dislike I see no difference between the arrogance of the French or the Germans. I am not talking about individuals but about how the 3 mentioned nations are viewed around the world. America is arrogant as is China. Sadly that arrogance is on a collision course which is going to lead to a major world conflict.

Lewis, Marion thank you for the replies. Sorry about the Royalist bit Lewis, but in my mind you are still a good guy.
Marion I know the stories of Ireland are not in any way pretty, there were some terrible things done over the years.

But over time I have learned more about the country with regular visits.
The Irish in the South are a very welcoming race of people who just want a peaceful life.
The further south the less inclined to want reunification, the further north the opposite.

But their hospitality and warm welcome makes them some of the greatest people you could meet, very simple in their life style whilst at the same time being complex in may aspect.

With luck next year we will be there again, should have been this one, but as you know..........................
We try to get there every second year.

We are sending things to Mars in the hope of finding some form of life there.
Well no self respecting planet would allow us near them or attempt to come here.

Victoria, have you been on the slops again, peace and harmony, think they may have been a band in the 60's certainly not around now.

But the world is getting worse not better, the gap between the haves and me is getting wider, not happy Jan.
Find a desert island to live on away from it all, but then no doubt there would be a land shark lurking somewhere.
But the sun is over the yard arm so time for some G&T.

Victoria I respect anyone’s religion or beliefs and experiences in life. As long as that word superficial doesn’t turn into supercilious which it can do when you try to compare your life with others. I spent all my working life in men’s company so talk as to a man as would do on a ship, but do at times find myself comparing that person ashore as against a person at sea , and find there are big discrepancies in values , such as reliability when needed, morals, mateship in general . And have to often change my way of thinking , and remember they are two different worlds. I have been ashore now 19 years but am still slowly getting there. The 60s apart from Industrial action ashore and various strikes , was a good time at sea still, and there is nothing today that can compare with it , to my thinking.
Men were still men and women ( apart from the adventuress ones like you ) were schoolmarms, and PC was still Police Constable. Cheers JS

Even Voodo must have some core values to some , but to most it was advertised as witchcraft which again is centuries old. I think the sun itself to those early humans would have been God , as was the source of all life. Our own Bible especially the New Testament , scientists could give you viable reasons for the likes of the miracles etc. the following the star as mentioned in the birth, could of been Haley’s comet e.g. There are scientific answers to most, but not all , as have the same as others experienced out of this world occurrences. I think that Dave Allen the good old Irish comedian had a good attitude to religion, he took the p*** out of religion all the time, but his parting saying was *may your god go with you*, good idea , whatever you believe may it help you, kt
