Guns.
Our PM has just brought in a new law. It is to buy back guns from Canadian citizens. A sum, yet to be determined, for handing in, will go into effect soon. I wonder how many villains*will be passing in their weapons? My guess is zero. They are the ones that are well armed, and doing the crimes. If we want to buy guns, we just have to cross the border.[when it reopens]A similar*thing was done in England regarding knives. How crazy was that. Knives can be purchased*at any hardware store*or sport shop. Is it just me, or am I missing something?

Re: Guns.
Gun buyback or Amnesty only works as you say on very few. Mind you there are those that possess Firearms legally and want to keep them for Sporting purposes, but on the whole i reckon as you say Den, the percentage will be vet low.
Knives the same thing, but who wants to keep a knife and for what purpose. Only possibly id its a special type for display may be ??
Cheers

Re: Guns.
It was done a number of years ago in Australia , but no one knows really how effective it was . It brought in results of keeping weapons off the market , but like all laws is there for the law abiding. Firearms still flourish in the underworld. In The Uk years ago the length of a knife blade was restricted I think to 6 inches , but a knife is a working tool , a razor blade is just as effective as a weapon. No person shpuld have to carry a weapon, most who do apart from those who legally do so are nut cases or self illusionary spivs Maybe it gives them emotions they can’t achieve otherwise . JS

Re: Guns.
Hi Den
It worked here after the Port Arthur massacre in Tassie, the Govt bought and destroyed millions of guns, but that was then, now guns have flooded in and most crims have them, we have daily shooting in Sydney most by overseas born people running drugs, as long as they are shooting their own it's OK, but the other day a stray bullet went through a hospital window and injured a nurse.

Re: Guns.
Yes Des
Seems that Sydney is on a Gun spree of late with so many Shootings!
Just dont know where all these Guns come from. I know there is a lot of underground activity, even so the Cops have raided so many places and taken possession of many Firearms already, but still it goes on!
The Bikies are always at War.
Never ending this Gun battle

Re: Guns.
the number of guns "bought back" in 1996 was around 642,00, not millions. and how can you "buy back" an item you have never owned, it was legalised theft.

Hi Doc. I have several knives with a 10 inch blade. Has to be that size for filleting some salmon or Halibut.
Can buy at any sports shop.

Re: Guns.
#7. Denis I have 2 ceremonial swords , all they need is a stone on the blades to make them lethal weapons , they are carried in public in a case, not going around strapped to the waist in a scabbard. Today you get nut heads brandishing swords and kulkris like knifes and forks, that’s where the law should chip in and arrest anyone displaying in public. In any threatening way. Shoot the baskets if necessary and make it a permanent head shot.Their not going to miss whatever little brain they once had. JS

Re: Guns.
I have a WW2 Bayonet, sharp as ever.
But honest citizens do not need guns, honest people do not need locks, but we have them.
No matter how many laws put in place unless they are policed they become useless.
But maybe the Canadian gov will resell them over the border and recoup their costs.

Happy daze John in Oz.
