Nice to know that Ken McClusky was responsible for loading ships as a ship planner and making sure that the vessel had the right cargo for the right ports in the right holds, must have taken a load of the Mate's shoulders, wonder if he did the stability calculations as well.

Watched the program last night. Very interesting, especially Mr. Maclusky claim to be responsible for ensuring ships were loaded with the correct stowage. Although it rightly was more about Liverpool itself with a bit about Birkenhead, I was a bit disappointed that they did not explore the jersey further up river, garston, bromborough, eastham and the ship canal.
That new container terminal is something else with the remote controlled cranes.
Containerisation had a difficult start in Liverpool, even after they opened the seaforth terminal, shifting the cranes round from the Canada dock. Productivity actually dropped after the shift going from 6.5 average lifts per crane per hour, down to 4.5 average per crane per hour. Lashing gangs were almost double in size compared to those employed at the ACT terminal in Tilbury or any of the Rotterdam terminals.
Good to see that they have moved with the times now. As an aside the program also mentioned Liverpool's history in the slave trade, showing statues of those traders on many of Liverpool's iconic buildings, many of which form it's international heritage status, wonder how long it will be before the BLM rabble start demanding their removal?

#7 Did a reply but seems to have disappeared into the ether. The commentator seemed quite proud of the slave trade, no mention that the Portuguese and Spaniards were competitors in it. Why don't the BLM mob get on planes and go to Egypt and dismantle the pyramids, they were built by slaves, can you imagine the reception they would get. No we're not going off course it was a large section of the programme.

As for McClusky he was a laugh a minute, you would have thought he and his ilk were the saviours of shipping/shipbuilding/dock industry instead of the destroyers, he certainly wins the prize for self-delusion.

The best way to judge the present dock road on Merseyside for those who sailed in and out years ago is come and take a look for your selves, Certainly a shadow of what it was Terry.
