Number crunching

Recent global events have seen me do more of what I had to do in my employment years, number chrunching.

In 1919 the global population was about 2 billion and some 50 million died from the Spanish Flu, which apparently began in USA.

Now we have about 7.8 billion and rising.

The annual birth rate is about 142 million with only 52 million deaths.

So far 10 million got the Virus with 500,000 gone.

It is estimated that with an aging population in time the birth and death rate will be the same, bringing a stable global population but no one can say when.

Last year here in Oz we lost some 3,500 to the Flu but far more alarming here in Victoria some 660 all under the age of 50 died from Heart attacks.

Somewhere in all of this there is a lesson to be learned, find a desert island and hide your self away.

Having lost family and friends, would say
anyone lost is not just a number.

Having also lost friends to covid-19 I am not offended by the use of numbers, we need the numbers to put things into perspective and how else do you measure results and cures

Compared to other countries all has been badly handled here
and most would prefer to remember those dear to them with
more respect than as numerals.

#4, Are you insinuating that I only remember my friends as numbers, if so that is pretty insulting and beyond the pale. It seems you are missing the point, numbers are needed in all aspects of life both for measures and counter measures and there is no escaping that fact.

As for this country mismanaging the situation compared to other countries is easy to say when you don't have to manage it and juggle so many balls, hindsight is a wonderful attribute but about as much use as a paper raincoat.

#5, agreed its amazing how many experts we in the UK now have with regard to the handling of the virus.
The media gives them the limelight to board us with failures, but not one of them has stood up and said this what I would have done.
Hind sight is the most exact science known to mankind.

Lets hope we get the promised inquiry into why so many deaths in the U.K. Especially amongst the elderly in care and rest homes. Something went wrong somewhere and accountability is very different than hindsight. Numbers again you make comparisons with other countries and then draw conclusions what or who made the wrong decisions at that time and why. Terry.

Yes it I sad to lose any one to this or any other virus.

But my question is has the world got it wrong?

The percentage of the global population who have gone equates to what would normally be half of the weekly total.

Too much has been put on the numbers of those who have contracted the virus, or passed with it.

It equates to 0.00064% of global population.

Compared with 0.25% with the Spanish Flu epidemic.

Politicians and economists are always quoting percentages at us when it comes to the economy, so why not now?

As to how it has been handled by various countries, mainly that comes down to the professional health persons who would normally advise the gov of the day.
If they give bad info then the people will suffer.

Remembering that there ae many countries out there were corruption within the gov is the daily norm, they will have little hope,
