Currents tides and climate change.
In all the posts on this site and in other sources of information about climate change have seen very little reference to the title subjects. People are very quick to point out rising sea levels due to melting ice , which in nearly every instance there is a reason for.
First as reference to tides and currents , tides are caused by the gravitational pull of our two main companions in the heavens the sun and the moon, the moon being closer having more effect. The main currents in the world such as the North and South Equatorial currents , the Gulf Stream and all the various others no mention is ever made to.
As seamen each would be very aware of any discrepancy’s in such as to the norm. For example going south down the east coast of Florida was always advisable to go close inshore out of the full might of the Gulf Stream, and usually found a counter current which gave you an addittional knot or even two. Currents are mainly caused by the rotational movements of the earth itself. To find if in the currents was usually done by taking sea temperatures hence the use of the canvas sea bucket. I think the term climate change although like most people are very aware that the. Earth is continuously changing and will continue to do so for eternity or until it breaks up the same as all other heavenly bodies , is being overstated to the point of boredom. Cheers JWS.
