Environment
If we accept that climate change is happening because of the increase of manmade Co2 production and that the Antarctic ice is melting because of said increase.
I read a report online recently (which I cannot find now) which stated; that Co2 was causing the ice to melt, and as the ice melted the area around the melt became darker absorbing more heat and accelerating the ice melt.
I had a thought (maybe stupid) if the ice cannot reflect the sunlight back into space why not build big reflectors, to reflect the suns rays and thus preventing the ice melt accelerating-simples.
2) A report from a German Engineer; states that the battery driven electric vehicles will be obsolete by 2030 and that Hydrogen Gas will power the car of the future.

Re: Environment
Vic when as lad in the 1950's/ 60's they were forecasting a new ice age. I can't find anything on the internet but I am sure there was a suggestion of putting a band of copper prarticles in space around the polar axis to melt the ice if it did happen.

Re: Environment
Could clock work cars not be workable ?
just wind em up every few miles.
Worked for years with clocks etc.
Just a thought, not a wind up.
Can imagine the first Rolex engine
and all the cheap imitations afterwards.

Re: Environment
Keith's idea would go down well with George Roby in Port Said, be a bit like his watches, as soon as you leave Cairo the car packs in; and you have to catch a Camel.
Has anyone heard`any more about that {acelerator ?} spinning around under the Alps?
As for changing weather the winds have changed down here in the Southern N.S.W, all those high winds and seas that we used to experience in the Great Australian Bight that swung onto southern N.S.W have dissapeared, they now swing away long before they get here, maybe the world is moving on it's axis.

Re: Environment
I have always thought that Hydrogen powered engines is the way to go. Hydrogen being a very unstable gas would come with many safety issues. Can only imagine that it would have to be generated as required. The storing issue in a tank as we know would be impractible due to impacts, fire and accidents. Would like to know more about this technology as to how they would generate the hydrogen. Perhaps it would be from H20 ? very interesting subject.

Re: Environment
i seem to recall on the motor show run by Jeremy Clarkson, they had a car that ran on hydrogen, it was quiet and economical , but the safety issues were too much. As an aside the Arabs must be getting touchy with all the electrical and hybrids coming along, whilst we are a long way from being independent from oil needs, i think the days when they would threaten price rises, or reduction in output, and the world quivered are long gone, kt

A hydrogen powered train has been tested recently, so no reason why a ship should be possible. Currently LNG fuelled ships and trucks / buses are the in thing.
