My belief is this, it was fortunate that a man of your professionalism, substance and seamanship was there to assist in the saving of lives in such a terrible disaster, thank you John for sharing with us all.

However if genuine complaint I Can live with it, Informatipn I put on here was for seamen as I think they have a right to know the real story and not bits and pieces from the ever magnifying press. My remarks on this site are my own and don’t come from google. I would not speak openly about the disaster for over 10 years and one of the reasons was just so for upsetting relatives. However I find it hard to believe that for someone who was not even there , and still bearing grief for a cousin is hard to believe after 30 years. PLease give his name and will check the names I have to see if there is any relevant information. Although if that upsets you also just don’t bother reading. Maybe if you find the grief too hard you should see a councillor. It’s no good posting to me either, all correspondence should be addressed to the site. I hope you read Lewis post on why the fire lasted so long that it penetrated that it was the cause of a lot of unnecessary deaths . The 167 deaths you so easily mention also include 2 seamen, which would have been more but for the hand of God. The biggest factor to a safety vessel is crew, anyone who thinks that they are well manned in numbers for jobs like the PA doesn’t know his ass from his elbow. JS
John, The man in question who died is: Graham Sim Noble B:23 Jan 1951 - D:6 Jul 1988 Piper Alpha, Aberdeen. RIP

Thanks Marian it was probably him who occidental said was out of the office when I queried who the well dressed middle eastern looking first survivor boarded was, we were at cross purposes looking for information , they looking to see if the explosion was man made purposefully, and me also looking for a reason. However my missing man was recently solved , his ears must have been burning for 30 years. His story was short and to the point maybe not so colourful for the media at the time. No need to bring up again the dead man’s cousin might suffer from suppressed bereavement again . Cheers JS

As a lot has been said in other posts about climate change and one post in particular about Hawaii burning and authority’s not wanting to waste water to fight, I can equate with that as to the Silver Pit I think it was and no one has mentioned the absurdity of such vessels . She had 2 toilets only and a certificate for carrying 250 survivors. I soon realised on joining they were both fresh water and to conserve water for domestic use I shut them off and left buckets with attached heaving lines for flushing with sea water after use. No mention during the enquiry was ever made to this anomaly . Maybe it was why reference was made by someone in high places on asking he hoped I was wearing my brown trousers. Also my reply when he asked he hoped she was better inside than outside and my reply No she isn’t . JS
