Re: Ukraine
#121 would that not muddy the Waters John ? To all intents and purposes the Ukraine are acting within the law and resisting on their own soil. Attack the Russians on their own soil and would lose some of that legality and would be used by the approaching forces as the war being forced on them. The most helpful fact that has been on the news if true , is that the Swiss banks have closed their doors to Russian finance. Switzerland has never done this as has always remained neutral , even during the last war. This points to the world that they are also against any credibility that the Russians profess to have . War on land is not for the amateurs apart from pulling triggers , the generals and the upper echelons of the war machine are now the experts. The more bloodier it gets the more Putin and his cronies will sink into the mire of history. JS

Re: Ukraine
Probably thinks it’s his last hope also , as no doubt he will be one of those unable to cash a cheque or get a few dollars out of Eftpos. A lot more will be drawn to Putin , before they find out they have backed a loser hopefully. JS

Have not posted a lot on this but must say that i agree with your thoughts John! Dont think Putin is a Dunce at all and has his own Strategy in mind!
Lets see what happens in the next few days ! But sincerely hope his plans do not succeed! Possibly wishful thinking !!!

Re: Ukraine
There are reports from various sources that Russians are being delayed or have stopped. The convoys are running out of fuel for the vehicles and food for the troops.
On paper the Russian have the superiority has they have the numbers and the technology. The Russian forces are mainly made up from conscripts, and according to some sources lack the will to fight and given very easily. Where as Ukrainians have nothing to lose.
Maybe Putin has overplayed is hands and that is why he is becoming desoerate

Re: Ukraine
#127.. So did Churchill if you remember John. And that was a Russia well before Putin. If you go back further the US were a supporter of the Russians in the Crimean war. After the Russian Revolution however when all politics changed so did America’s thinking. After the Crimean war Russia sold Alaska to the US for coppers. Politics politics politics , JS

Re: Ukraine
John P.
What you say about that young child its horrendous, but so it is for all those young children in Yemen, Saudi Arabia have been killing children for years there, but of course they are only Arabs, but something they wouldn't be able to without American arms.
On saying that politicians do what they do. Take our PM, just announced that he is sending $70 million in arms to Ukraine, plus $30 million in refugee aid, notice the difference? This is the same man who wouldn't pay staff here a decent wage in our old people homes to stop the Covid, resulting in thousands of deaths of old people, not his fault? the staff of these old peoples homes had to work shifts in multiple homes to get a decent wage, that way carrying the Covid from one to the other, his Minister couldn't answer questions as he was off to watch the test match in Tasmania. All countries have their politicians good and bad.
