You are not paying council tax on your rented out property your tenant pays that!!!! also when you were paying into your pension fund you could claim tax relief on your contributions, if you did not get tax relief on your contributions you should have had a better accountant.
Agree though that a single occupied three bed semi or whatever size the property is should not pay the same as those who have 3 , 4 or more wage earners living in a similar property. But I would not agree that they pay 3 or 4 times more than the single occupied home. Idea being if they have teenage or 20's kids living in, they are hopefully saving for a home of there own.

    .

Gordon Brown, the Prime Minister, Geoff Hoon, the Transport Secretary, and Margaret Beckett, the former foreign secretary, have all been criticised for claiming the allowance while living in grace-and-favour homes in London.

Mr Brown and David Cameron, the Conservative leader, have already called for an overhaul.

The Prime Minister has asked the Committee on Standards in Public Life to speed up its inquiry into the scheme, which is expected to recommend that the ACA is scrapped before the next election and replaced with either a daily attendance allowance or a pay rise.

he rents to tenants. In my opinion it would be cheaper to put this lot {ALL M.P.s} On methadone.
Terry , fair comment but WHAT year is if from Gordon went 10 years ago

###my tenants do not pay council tax you are wrong .......i have a very good accountant ...i pay tax on my pension ..get up to speed......if you are not paying tax on your pension....you are in the same game as teds MPs......you have been out of england or ireland too long we pay tax on our pensions ......if you have no pension other than the state pension i would suggest you would need to look for benefits as the state pension is worth very little

All my Pension is taxed, State Pension and MN Pension, then Council Tax on top of that, just to keep the Bums who never bothered to pay for a Pension and went on the ale instead.
My neighbours all got new Gas boilers and double glazed windows all for free , I had to pay a few thousand pounds for mine,
Should be like a young lady I once encountered, "No Pay , No Play". no money then bleddy tough, you have had a lifetime to save up.same as everyone else. so stop bleddy whinging, after a lifetime of boozing and smoking it is no wonder some people have no money.

Cappy, why are you paying council tax on the properties you rent out!!!! I have property rented out in the UK and it is the tenants responsibility to pay the council taxes & utility bills. As a landlord it is my responsibility to rectify any maintenance issues concerning the property. I have been renting properties out in the UK for over 15 years.
Like you I pay taxes on pensions and other incomes, for income tax I am registered to pay in France, I still have to fill in a tax declaration to HMG and as the tax year in France runs from Jan 1st to Dec 31st a year in arrears the UK accept my tax return as not being liable for UK tax because I am resident in France.

I have just finished a letter to Benton and the pension people arranging for the hopeful 6 weeks later in the summer my pension will be in line with what it would be if I lived there. If all these foreigners can get it so will I which I am fully entitled to. At least it will be less for the Aussie government to fork out for 6 weeks. There are still people living in certain countries on uk pensions trying to live on 1960 rates. All the riff raff from outside the uk wanders in and gets everything gratis, something stinks in the state of China, JWS.
