Depends what the definition is of right and wrong, good or bad, the yardsticks are changed to suit whatever era one lived in or whatever type ruled the roost. History is full of maniacs and self possessed ego maniacs. Their still there and always will be it seems. There is truth in the old saying of the ex alcky when they are described as none so pure as the purified. Those that live by the law of the 10 commandments are today shunned as out of date and sexists. Man that is born of woman will soon be outlawed , among many other popular ex beliefs. People have outgrown themselves and when there is nothing left to argue about will turn on themselves and destroy mankind, or should add plus woman kind, but there again the term man and woman will maybe be banned also by that time. Maybe wise if they are still made to stock up with rubber dolls whilst still can. They are continuously finding cures for previous deadly ailments for what ??? So as to live longer in a very unstable world brought about by the stupidity of a minor and twisted amount of people. JWS. PS To keep this in today’s modern world please read metre sticks for yard sticks, or if a Diddy fan tickling stick. JS

I am as well when it comes to the belief in people. Choose your friends well the enemies will always be there looking for an opening. Every war since the world began has been started by people. Be it kings, queens ( excluding maybe those from UCL) Dictators, PMs, presidents, every warlord that sees a chance of self improvement. Most wars are escalated my media reports today blowing up to suit the occasion. what happens in the Middle East should be of no concern to people outside the Middle East if they are citizens of other countries. What troubles they have are for themselves to manage and not foreign intrusion into others affairs. Today countries invade without a thought so one more old yardstick has gone forever, that a countries sovereignty should be sacrosant boom gone forever. People point the finger at the likes of Russia and yet do exactly the same thing themselves. There is no standards as such in today’s so called modern world , the rules have hit a low and still continue downwards. At the end of the day whether a full blown war or what a lot of dimwits like to call a police action, it is always the man in the street who has to go and attempt to pull someone’s chestnuts out of the fire, with resultant large losses of life , all. Under propaganda put out by the instigators of the uproar. JWS

    Hi Cappy .
Obviously Lewis hasn't read Napoleonic history.

lewis has his own view ......we are all entitled to that ...but depending whether its the english ....irish or the french view of lewis,s they may differ.....to suit the discussion......but then that is lewis ,s right but iask myself which is the real lewis...and does even he know........perhaps a one way ticket to france instead of the one way ticket to ireland offered to an other member may be a better suggestion.....of course no one would deem that a threat ......in england ireland or france ...dont know about scotland......

Over the past year or so I have been involved in reasoned political debates on this site, when I have been wrong I have apologised, rightly so.
Throughout these debates, more than one person has thrown the towel at some stage in the debate, it is now my time to call time on this posting.
You cannot have a reasonable or reasoned debate when an individual changes the goalposts.
Lewis, we have a saying Scotland you could start an argument in an empty hoose, think about. By the way its nothing to do with the invite.

Vic as I said the offer is on the table. Start an argument in an empty house. No Vic I leave that to you and your cronies. Go back to the #1 and take it from there and see were the Politics raised its head yet again, it certainly was not by me or others whose political views differ from those who sit to the left of the speaker in the house of commons.

#4 If my memory serves I think the British National Anthem is about 75 verses long if played in full. I remember my uncle Richard saying that he was at a function when the whole anthem was played, it took about an hour standing to attention the whole time. This was in Calcutta in July when the temperature would have been in the high thirties or low forties !!! Celsius that is !! Regards Peter in NZ ( Only 27' today )

    Re # 4.

    Lord grant that Marshal Wade,
    May by thy mighty aid,
    Victory bring,
    May he sedition hush,
    Rebellious Scots to crush,
    God save the King,
    From France and Pretender,
    Great Britain defend her,
    Does let them fall,
    From foreign slavery,
    Priests and their Knavery,
    And Popish Reverie,
    God save us all.

How absurd. It is praying for Wade's success in his actions against the Jacobites during the period after Preston pans where government troops were defeated in September 1745. It is unlikely to have been sung in earnest any time after December 1745 when Marshal Wade was replaced, and not after April 1746 when the Jacobites were defeated.
Even more to the point, Marshal Wade died two years after Culloden on 14th March 1748. It would be even more ridiculous to sing it after he died.

    Fouro.
