    Default Texas Floods

I hope no one on the site has friends/relatives living in Texas at present and if they have lets hope they are all safe. The pictures coming out of Houston/ Corpus Christie etc. are terrible showing the extent of the flooding in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
The whole of the Houston area down to the sea entrance is covered in Petrochemical installations so I suspect they will all have to have been shut down, not an easy task. All shipping on berths right up into the City Docks in Houston would be in danger of being swamped as water levels in the Houston Ship Canal rise. Nothing on the news here regarding shipping though, just images of homes etc. destroyed by the hurricane winds and then whole areas under feet's of water.

john, was talking to friends over the weekend, they do their winter on the texas coast. may have to rearrange their plans, could be very expensive for them, if they go at all.
also caught the tail end of a TV clip today, an expert on the Houston ship canal stated it could be silted up to the point that it could take weeks, months or longer to dredge it, he also made some reference to the term, " Houston ship canal chicken run", something to do with lining up on an approaching ship and turning off at the last moment. wish I could have got the whole clip, it was quite interesting.
    regards, stan

My son and his family are right there and cut off for most of the last couple of days. Last night he messaged me to say they were heading upstairs as the water was increasing. I feel totally helpless!! There is absolutely nothing you can say that would be of any help.

More on the floods affecting Houston. If you go to the Houston ports website it had all vessels arriving as "null", i.e. all traffic stopped.

Be prepared next year for some very heafty increases in any insurances you pay, some one will have to compensate the insurance companies.

Interesting as well to look at the "Flights App". Normally USA is covered by a mass of aircraft wall to wall. There is a huge round clear gap all over the Houston area, even high level aircraft.
This morning my son tells me Harvey seems to be slowly shuffling off in the direction of Alabama. I think for him at least, the worst may be over

Here is an update of the status of the Texas and Missouri ports after Harvey has dumped record amounts of water on Texas and is now about to do the same to Missouri.
