Re: BC fire update
The base I'm thinking of Roger was a US Air Force base. Everything shipped in from the States. These friends he had worked in a bank and joined the US military in his 30"s, and was the navigator on one these largest transport planes in the world at the time. Most families on the base never left it, they were one of the few who did. Cheers JWS.

Re: BC fire update
Most fire courses I can remember the theory all started with the fire triangle divided into 3 parts, fuel, ignition, Oxygen. Take one away and you had a fire free zone maybe perhaps.?. The principle behind an inert system on tankers, by making the tanks over rich in oxygen or oxygen lack of. Bush fires however is nigh on impossible, fuel is there, oxygen you have no control over, and some silly begger with a box of matches who should by rights be shot on sight. Those on site who carried on in the fire service will have the proper views on this. Cheers JWS

Hi John, Think I mentioned. The call is out for anyone willing to help..
Training will be given prior to getting sent to the fire zones.
I'm sure it will only be on back up duty, not right at the middle of the fires.
The army have their own fire experts.
In fact one of my pals is a retired fire fighter.

Re: BC fire update
Here in Victoria we have one of the worlds highest bush fire dangers in the world. Some of e ones over the years have been devastating with the loss of life often getting close to 100 in any fire.
Last real bad one was Black Saturday a few years ago, the area has still not fully recovered.
We try to keep undergrowth under control; with regular burn offs, but the 'Greens' so often complain about native habitat that it is often difficult to keep it under control.

Happy daze John in Oz.
