During the 2014 Independence referendum, Shetland Islands stated that if Scotland voted for independence, then Shetland would demand separation from Scotland. Remember Shetland is closer to Norway and was at one time Norwegian.

Not too sure but I was always under the impression that the Crown (Queen) owned all the seabed in U.K. territorial waters.

Beware of your words, Power House up this way is the name of a well known gay bar in Newcastle, some of the politicians that keep banging on about the Northern Power House I suspect would be well at home there LOL

“Forget about Brexit, who won Legs-it!”
Daily Mail's 'Who won Legs-it!' headline draws scorn - BBC News
Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Woods, who owns a fine pair of pins, could potentially see off both Theresa May and Nicola Sturgeon.
The above is added as a laugh and should not be taken to seriously.
LOL.

John, think you are corrcet about the crown and sea beds.
But there afre numerous oil weels around the globe, all capped and just waiting for the right price before starting up.
There is one off the coast of Veneauala said to be the biggest oil filed in the world. Owned by Santos for many years now but may not be opened for up to 50 more.
On out TV today the signing of 'Brexit' and a no to a second referendum on the matter of Scottish independence. According to the correspondent the gov in Westminster will only allow such once during the life of the parliament.

Re: This will make wee burney jump for joy
There are always a number of unexplained oddities when it comes to drilling for oil. Since directional drilling came into vogue quite a number of years ago now, how do they police that someone isn't going onto another bloc.??? Drilling for gas and oil brought a lot of technology into the world and can see this ashore when council workmen are laying any power lines from one sidewalk to across a road to the other side without ripping up the road, this is all technology introduced through the oil industry, that is the good side of things, the bad side is the way they regain any losses by putting the price of petrol up at their own whim when required. If you chase the first instance from exploration to the garage side of petrol only one of many products produced from oil, one would think that the country of origin would have some say on the price at the bowser, either they are in cahoots with the oil companies or are afraid to cross swords with them. My guess is that the oil companies are a power unto themselves and have more power than what one is aware of. Which all goes back to the legalities agreed on twix government and oil company. If wee Burney as she is called does not have a legal team to draw up such an agreement with some of the best lawyers in the world she is going to be up the creek with a paddle with a hole in it. There again she can always resign and leave someone else with the problem. As an aside to this post anyone who has been on the NZ coast running from the oil refinery in Whangerai with petrol to all the depots in all the ports in NZ must have noticed that it was all distributed to the different oil companies in NZ, pointing out the fact that unless some particular garage of some particular oil company put a saccarhine in at the bowser, it is exactly the same as every other garage is selling apart from the price per gallon or litre. Is this not misinformation to the customer?? What oil company used to have the slogan put a tiger in your tank.? JWS

Re: This will make wee burney jump for joy
HIi All.
I remember a long time ago I think just after this site started I posted that a British oil Co engineer who was purported to have been the worlds best said that the worlds oil would run out in 25 years, don't know if that still stands as they are finding oil everywhere. I'm waiting for someone to ask if they could dig my garden up.
But the old tale comes to mind
An old black man down the deep south said that when the lord made the world he put an axle through it, north and south poles, he then greased the axle to stop the world overheating, but, he said now they are taking all the grease away.

Re: This will make wee burney jump for joy
Des, way back in 1975 Shell UK made a statement that at the then current rate of use oil would run out by 2000.
As to the changing price of fuel here in Oz. My brother in law was with the tax office, but he was still a nice guy, and told me this.
Fuel production continues 24/7 and when the supply tanks at the depot are full the company will discount in an attempt to get levels down. When down low enough up goes the price again.
