I.D. required when voting

I hope that we don't go down the 'Everyone has to carry an ID'route, as in France and many other countries.

Don't see a problem with that, we did it in the war, we did it as seamen, in this day and age of illegal immigration and terrorism seems sensible that everyone should have official I.D. all this talk about Civil Liberties a load of codswallop, we are the most watched nation on earth, lets have I.D. Cards, done nothing wrong-got nothing to fear, yes there will be some forgeries but any step that helps mitigate illegals or illegality gets my vote. Still have my MN Identity card with fingerprints, also have my wartime I.D.Card somewhere and ration book

Young Kinnock was thinking on TV las night about the proposed ID when casting a vote. He stated "sledge hammer to crack a nut, he didn't believe it was a problem, and would hit the labour vote".
I have often thought when voting that their should be additional checks to ensure system not abused.

many years ago there was no such thing in this country of fraud in the voting system ..it has appeared since our new immigrants from foriegn climes have arrived ...this quote is no doubt racialist ...but i dont give a monkeys ...because they can make all the laws they want ....but the truth is the truth .....it all makes me sick and for that bloody kinnock to kiss there axses is a disgrace to englishmen .....sorry he is not english is he ...i suppose thats bloody racialist as well .....cappy now coming gently down from xmas celebrations

A few years ago Pete and I had our finger prints taken when we arrived at Heathrow. They said it was a trial. Don't know what happened to that.

This year we were finger-printed leaving India for Bhutan. It wasn't an ink job (in either of the cases ) just on a plastic pad that read our prints. I suppose they matched it against known criminals. Would that be so difficult here ? It would mean a finger pad in every Poll Station - so maybe not. Also, someone would have to check prints against records.

A few years ago I had to prove my identity and a Utility Bill was useless as it only prints the name of the first Householder. Had to resort to the Bank Statement - which is a worse infringement of liberty. Someone has to come up with s/thing a lot better.

very old fashioned attitude.Living in spain we al carry some form of photo ID and it makes life easier to use credit cards draw cash from a bank and many other transactions.The use of a NIE(ni) number is a way of life here and even to sign for a post delivery requires the number.It really is time that the UK caught up with modern forms of identification and maybe we would have less fraud from friends from warmer climes.
