CAR iNSURANCE,
Does anyone have a problem with Car Insurance??
My Insurance Company, HASTINGS, has increased the price by £100 NOW DUE ON 21 June.
All the other Insurance companies have done the same. They now want over £650 cheapest, some want over £2000.
What a rip off.
I have just been on the phone to NFU and they refuse d to insure because of my Post Code.
Has anyone got any tips?
Clean Licence, no claims, or accidents.
Brian

Re: CAR iNSURANCE,
Hi Brian when you work out the true cost of keeping your car on the road it would be far cheaper to sell it and use taxis. Think of insurance, road tax, servicing, MOT, parking fees, petrol etc.
Unless you enjoy driving or would miss having a car the taxi makes more sense. I need a car because of where I live so do not have that option.

Re: CAR iNSURANCE,
The government increased the tax on insurance this year, but not by that much. I have read reports that insurance companies are now loading over 75s from now on, much in the manner that they are loading young drivers. Mine dus soon, so will see if this is born out, kt

Re: CAR iNSURANCE,
It's well worth trying all avenues Brian(like I ended up doing once when my car satnav failed to lock into any passing satellites-probably due to user input error,i.e.me)
Joking apart the same thing happened to me last September.Same postcode as last year and no changes to particulars, but about £100 more. I would imagine these insurers automatically increase the renewal premium, hoping you would just automatically accept it and renew.Probably many people do.Not Me! I went on to one of the many website comparison sites for car insurance, making sure I entered accurately all my data and checked the quote from my very same insurance company-it was a good deal less. Now,even allowing for the fact that these websites quotes usually include a discount for new business,it was still well below what this insurer had quoted me for their renewal. On the phone I went to my Insurer and told them about the quote on the comparison site. She checked and after a discussion with her supervisor(in the background I gather, because she put me on hold),came back with a figure of £20 or so LESS than last years premium. She asked me would that be acceptable Mr.Smith? Still pretending to be somewhat aggrieved I said "Oh alright,I''ll accept that then".(I was actually punching the air and silently mouthing YES-! RESULT !
I also do the same with my energy company and British Telecom.I don't accept their renewal quotes, and quote figures from other companies mentioning I'm tempted to take up another offer with them, and doesn't my loyalty count for anything.I tell companies like BT that it might be OK for them to offer new customers massive discount rates, but what about WE LOYAL CUSTOMERS !
I've mentioned previously in posts on this site that I've been 'negotiating' my premiums every year like this since 2007 and have never failed to get a reduction .
Worth a try then Brian?

Re: CAR iNSURANCE,
Both my wife and I drove company cars so although driving for over 30 years never earned any no claims bonus. When we retired I didn't wish to drive anymore and my wife never bothered and used taxi's and bus's taxis costing about £20.00 per week.About3 years ago I said to my wife I think you should have a little car for getting around. The quotes we were getting was unbelievable many £1500-£2,000 eventually got with L-V around about £600. after 2 years now down to £450..Received renewal last week for £480. I phoned up to query it and they knocked it down to £450. this is fully comp.So Brian after just 2 years no claims bonus far cheaper than yours and no mention on an extra £100 increase.
Regards.

We're subsiding all the under 25's and uninsured drivers whose accident rates are far higher than we over 60's.We are perceived as a soft touch by insurance companies and that we will gratefully pay their premiums as a sort of accepted penalty for growing old,and because they assume we are more likely to be able to afford it.
There are still rumblings in the country about making over 70's take a new driving test.Tut tut!
I reluctantly came back to car ownership when Chris became ill three years ago.I never had a car for 14 years when I lived and worked in London.Even when we moved out west we didn't need one, public transport was OK,and a bit of a challenge in journey planning, which I did on the computer, and I loved it.
When I was younger I loved driving and always had nice cars,I used to drive thousands of miles in the UK on my leaves.
Now? Well my three year old MPV has got just 7,500 on the clock ,yes seven and a half thousand after 3 years. Especially now Chris has gone I just don't want to go anywhere by driving and would rather go by train, but there is hardly any public transport in my area now and really I just keep it for emergencies and to pop into town.I've really fallen out of love with driving, mainly due to all the other Richard Heads one encounters on the road.
There's an old response to that isn't there? Well if you don't like the roads drive on the pavements!

Hi Vic
Just been on to RAC, they said £1200, That is with ten years No Claims, no convictions, and only driving 3,000 miles a year.
Car Garaged overnight.
I guess another rip off.
