#4 John, a rhumb line usually refers to a course laid out on a Mercator chart. Never heard it having anything to do with the compass, there again we all go through life sometimes believing the wrong thing. Think you may be thinking of the sometimes called lubber line marking the ships head. Your spelling is correct. Cheers JS
