You should be so Lucky.
I am at moment going round singing "You should be so Lucky". I changed my motor a Nissan a few months ago. Put it in at the local garage for its 50,000 km. service. On the report the Mechanic had put a possible oil leak on the back end of the engine. On enquiring the cost of it was going to be big dollars for him to get the parts etc from Nissan and was a time consuming job and advised me as per report to check on the Warranty of the car. Knowing the car was 4 years old I had severe doubts about this. However went through the motions and finished up phoning Melbourne. Gave them the chassis number and previous owner, also from Melbourne, within minutes they came back it was in warranty until the 26 February in a few weeks time. Took it into a Nissan dealer here locally and they had to check that the parts were covered by the warranty and not damage incurred by the owner. Came back and said it did come under the warranty, and they would have to also send to Melbourne for the spare parts, and it would probably take them anything up to two days to fix. Received a call today to take it in Wednesday morning and hopefully they would do in a day. Usually the warranty on cars are 3 years so the lady who had previously may have taken out an extended one, which I am sure pleased she did. Also thankful to the mechanic on doing the 50,000 service for him spotting a future problem. Hence " I should be so Lucky". When I said to the wife I will just have to use your car if it is away for too long, all I got was a stony stare, she insists I have a lead foot and doesn't want me driving her baby. Cheers JS

Re: You should be so Lucky.
If you have a car that is out of its manufacturers warranty it is always a good idea to take out an extended warranty. Here in the U.K. there are a number of outfits offering them at surprisingly low cost. On our 6 year old Ford Focus we pay about £30 p/m and this covers all costs of servicing, m.o.t., and it covers any and all major repairs to engine/gearbox/suspension and most importantly for modern cars, all electronics.

John, my son a master mechanic by trade , bought a nice BMW coupe a few years ago with no service history , after a while he had a problem with the suspension so he called the local dealers they checked the computer and it was a call back job that he got done for free ,not only that the car had had a full service history from day one, jammy begger, joe.

Re: You should be so Lucky.
Ive had 3 as well John. All second hand and no problems. This is a possible future problem and may have lasted years or weeks. Been to same garage for all my used cars, is not their fault. If had taken back there inside of their 6 months warranty would have fixed, but waited until the 50,000 kilometres service at another and closer garage, and as said the mechanic pointed out possible future problems, which he need not have done. There are still some honest people left in the world. Cheers JS

Re: You should be so Lucky.
Her in doors has a Hyundai Getz bought three years ago, it still had three years on the warranty as Hyundai here in Oz give five years. With my Land Rover any parts fitted during service are given three years warranty and now that TATA own the company all services here are fixed for life time ownership no matter how many years you own the vehicle.

Happy daze John in Oz.
Life is too short to blend in.

Re: You should be so Lucky.
The saga of the car. Extract from an account I am going to hand to Garage... On the day of writing this the car has been in the garage from the Wednesday 3rd. Feb. Was told it could take two days to complete the repair. On the Friday was informed some spare part had not been sent down from the Perth Depot. And as was the weekend would be Monday the 8th Feb. before the car was ready. At 1430 hrs today the 8 Feb. on enquiring if the car was ready, was informed that would not be ready until tomorrow the 9 Feb. That by my reckoning is 5 working days to complete a job that was supposed to take possibly a run into two, If car does not come out of garage tomorrow I will await to see how much if anything they are going to charge on the warranty job.
I have had 3 Nissan cars all with no problems fortuanetly, however if this is the standard of their after sales service and warranty I would advice anyone having the misfortune to fall into this chasm to think about it and read the Warranty carefully.
Is now tomorrow Tuesday the 9th Feb. Called the Garage over an hour ago and said they would call back in 20 minutes, haven't up to now called back. Do you reckon there is something murky going on behind the scenes. The PR work is faultless as even offered me a car whilst this one was in, which I refused in case there were any charges to such. Pity about the mechanical side. A bit like politics I suppose all show and no guts. Cheers JS
Now 1500 hrs 2 hrs after I phoned, so phoned them once again. Said they were working right through to finish and car would be ready for pick up today about 1700 hrs. However the girl said she would like to keep again overnight so she could get it cleaned out and washed before delivery first thing in the morning, which agreed to. Excuses for delay again being given that the Depot in Perth 40 Kms away had sent the wrong seals down 3 times. So heres hoping have wheels tomorrow. All it needs now is to be in collision with a brick wall to finish this saga off. JS
