Re: Climate Change
So there we have the men in Paris telling us they will save the planet, it will not warm anymore than 1.5 degrees. Great stuff coming from men who cannot even get the 7 day weather forecast correct but can tell us in 100 years we will all fry if things do not change. Are they for Real?
Bjorn Lomborg, Danish environmentalist says that even if the world follows to the letter the agreement in Paris it will by 2100 only reduce temperatures by 0.5 degrees. Somehow I believe him above all the rest.
But a very interesting article in our Sunday press by a leading financial commentator. 'This has more to do with raising taxes from the masses than any thing to do with global warming, remembering that at the time of the industrial revolution beginning around 1750 half of the western world was not populated or if so then very sparsely'.
All the back slapping and good on ya mate will count for nought as there is no way some countries will abide by this and if they fail who will punish them?

Re: Climate Change
You had some cooks John that carried everything that we discussed back to the chf.stwd.Once we realised the cook was a snitch we used to talk not to him but with him in earshot and make things up for him to tell the steward. For instance we were in port and were talking in front of the cook that a guy was coming to the r.send at 7.30pm to buy the paint from us.Good enough the chf.stwd turned up aft at 7.25 having a good look over the side,we had him worried over a few other things.

Re: Climate Change
Had a Second Steward who was the old mans tiger, he was an old fairy well past his prime. The old man was rarely up before 1100 hrs. and as soon as he got up he wanted me there to let him know what was going on, I always got a couple of beers from him, but then when I had no mad escapades to relate, he used to say well I'll tell you whats going on and away he went. He was obviously getting chapter and verse from the old fairy. Who I collared as didn't want him apart from anything else discussing my private life either. Told him I would tell the crowd what he was doing if he didn't stop, he stopped alright. That trip the only straight man in the catering staff was from South Shields, the cook, I also met his brother who was Chief Engineer in the North Sea. He used to come up to my cabin for a couple of beers when I came off watch as said he was going mad in the catering accommodation as they were all dressed up every night as Salome and the likes. Didn't bother me or most seamen but he felt definetley out numbered, the Cooks name was Albert wont say his second name as is probably still knocking around, anyhow cant remember it, it wasn't the Albert a member of this site from North Shields as have had a drink with him the last twice over in UK. Cappy will probably know the family. A very serious young man at the time. Probably much more wiser and hardened to life if still breathing our contaminated climate change air by now. Cheers JS

Re: Climate Change
As the implications of the recent climate change agreement begin to unfold, life as we know now will change.
Apparently hidden in the agreement is the banning of gas cookers and boilers for central heating.
Central heating boilers will be replaced by ground source heat pumps. they are very efficient but consume electricity.
They better start building big power stations now as domestic consumption will go through the roof.

Re: Climate Change
#67... Albert was straight Cappy, the Ch.Stwd, 2 Steward, assistant steward, 2nd Cook/Baker, 1 boy rating were all bent, thats why he used to come for a beer every night for sanctuary. Would have been a horrific nightmare for him if I was of the same leaning, should have pretended to have been just to see the shock effect. The same boy rating rolled up at my home with a different Ch Stewd from Cardiff, who I knew, gave the wife the shock of her life when he rolled up waving a babysham bottle shouting I"ve brought you a drink Mr. Mate. That Ch. Stwd was definetley straight as had also sailed with, the old man and self rolled up at his house just outside Cardiff one time. His wife walked out the door when we walked in. He had 3 wives to my knowledge. Another one in Casablanca who he went through a marriage ceremony with, and a one in Japan who he went through the Buddhist marriage ritual with, and those were the only three that I knew of. He was about 5 feet one and a half inches tall and would of put the proverbial rabbit to shame. Cheers JS

Re: Climate Change
It has been noted by a number of economists that with oil and gas so cheap just now those wishing to increase renewable energy sources may well struggle to do so. The UK has now closed the last remaininmg coal pit but is now buying fron overseas at a price so cheap it makes one wonder if renewables will ever get to a level where they may produce maybe 30% of energy requirements. In Queensland, appropriate for some earlier posts, there is enough coal to last Oz and China for some 500 years. Cannot see any gov giving up the income from that lot.

Re: Climate Change
Still fail to see the price at the bowser. 43 dollars a barrel and still most days here over 1.30 dollars a litre, the same price when it was 120 dollar a barrel. Why no public outcry can only think the general public are that heartily sick of being taken for a ride, they just sit back and let it all go. One good thing when fossil fuels go, the middle east which relies moreso on its wealth will be back to using camel dung as a source of fuel. However no doubt our beknighted do gooders will give away the citizens money in some grand gestures on their own behalf. What a stupid world we live in. Cheers JS
