Terminological in exactitudes are not allowed here LOL

Re: How to Park a Ship.....
Have always wanted to do that Marian. Especially to some ships have been on. A bit of information for you re ship construction in case you didn't know. The half or whatever dismantled ship on his port side, the double bottom visible, that part is called a floor the holes in same are lightening holes, and when people have been describing doing tank inspections in other posts, this is what you had to climb through in the dark with the use of a light from a safety torch. Ivan would have had to do a lot of that as a superintendent unless he got the mate to do for him which I doubt. But as he says himself he is only 6 foot five and a half inches. Cheers JS

Marian, looks to me that it was intended to beach in the ship breakers yard. Those walking towards her were more like vultures than ferry passengers.

Re: How to Park a Ship.....
Richard as said I never had the opportunity to take one to the knackers yard. However when word used to get out a ship was due to go there, the first things disappearing were the likes of the De-Gaussing cable if fitted, was worth a fortune, anyone slick enough to get the spare propeller if Phosperous bronze was set up for a good few years. There was plenty on a ship to disappear, the most I got that I can remember was the best silver out of the saloon and still use today. The vultures approaching the ship will be heading for the bits worth money and transportable. Hope the crew got there first. Cheers JS

Re: How to Park a Ship.....
#6..That's right one owner said to me take what you want, no doubt the stewards made the necessary arrangements re linen etc. The ship was going to the knackers yard probably for a very low cash value and was of no further interest to most owners. Maybe some of the British ones I was with may have had a different attitude as would probably want linen and such for other ships. As said the big money was in the likes of the de-gaussing cable and any engineer who took the initative to remove the casing and replace after burning sections of same out, and had the time and a buyer could probably have taken early retirement. Cheers JS

1 Me too!
2 the holes were never as big as that, only as big as the lower tier, I suspect there is a deck between the upper row and lower row
3 Would have been more than my jobs worth, sometimes ask the mate to stand by the manhole in the TT ceiling, invariably he was called away to another job and you would be hoping no one would put the lid back on whilst you were still crawling about 50 feet away
4 I wish, reverse the figures and you'll be nearer the mark!

Sound track sounds Turkish, but can assure you if it was like Gadani Beach, then there would be no vultures, everything was strictly controlled even though it didn't appear so. Looks to me like a bunch of guys just heading towards more work.

Re: How to Park a Ship.....
The smart people see opportunities it seems, I seem to recall some years ago when the QE2 was first launched she had problems with vibration, and they replaced the props. If my memory is right, I think after some years of this prop lying on the quay, someone purchased it and turned into 1000 ??? Limited edition golf clubs.Dont if anyone recalls that, they would be worth good money now I think. Kt
