Re: Prefabricated Homes.
There were a number built in Fleetwood of precast concrete panels. They were built in the Memorial Gardens Park so were surrounded by beautiful gardens all year round with no noise problems ( three inch thick concrete panels ). They rented for a pittance and the tenants just would not move out. They had all the amenities of any modern house. As far as I am aware they are still there. Regards Peter in NZ.

Re: Prefabricated Homes.
#20 I've got a rule Doc, in the summer I never eat food cooked off the pavement and in the winter I never eat yellow snow
. I have seen an egg being fried on a car bonnet over here a few years ago, I have to say I loved the weather we knew in the MN but now I really can't take too much heat, it flattens me. It sounds like you're well prepared for emergency's with the sprinklers etc you can't beat belts and braces but mother nature does what she wants (typical woman) and from what I've seen on the telly the fires in Aus and the USA are pretty devastating, but it sounds to me like your in a very good place. All the best, John. PS I'm going to turn in now.

Re: Prefabricated Homes.
Recall a number of them at the end of our road in South London, there until the very late 60's. But now of course there is the danger in asbestos so I doubt you would be able to do a lot with them now.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Prefabricated Homes.
#23 Hi John, right on I'm surprised they lasted as long as they have, I've often wondered how many of the people who built and lived in these asbestos homes have been affected with lung disease in the past before they discovered the dangers and connections.
But they certainly served their purpose after the war, and gave many a better standard of living in comfort. Cheers JC.

Re: Prefabricated Homes.
Just slightly off this we lived in a Corrugated House at one stage,it was small and not much room at all, this was on the old Farm in DeDeur outside of Johannesburg, however the Farm was huge and had many Fruit trees ,Cattle ,Chickens and Veges!
We were very happy there and Dad eventually built a Brick Home there!
What good days!
But boy was it noisy when we had those Storms that the Transvaal is famous for!
That Metal Roof !!! Eeeeek!
My late Dad with his Point 22 Rifle stands gaurd at the Chicken Run to keep the Hawks ar bay!
They were a damn pest swooping down and just taking their food!
Me and my late Brother also had turns standing Guard with our Air Rifles! Grrrrr!
Cheers
Dad on farm DeDeur Apple Orchards.jpg here is a prefab Chicken Run LOL

Re: Prefabricated Homes.
Hi Ron, Although there was plenty of them in the area I grew up in I never gave them any thought until I saw the article about the one in Peckham that was sold with a bit of ground for £950,000. I've never seen inside one but today I found some pictures online
of the insides and I was really surprised at how nice they were, not at all cramped with nice sized rooms and kitchen. I can well believe that people were only too glad to move in to them and reluctant to move out. All the best, JC.

Re: Prefabricated Homes.
That is a smashing photo Doc it's almost got a western theme to it, you will never be short of memories while you have photo's like that, when I first joined this site, you were telling me about your dad buying you a .22 rifle for your 14th birthday and your days out shooting with your mate on your bikes. Did you see a film called "The Hellions" with Richard Todd & Lionel Jeffries it was a sort of high noon story set in South Africa it was a blooming good film. and another old one set in Australia about the 19th century gold rush
called "Eureka Stockade" 1949 with Chips Raffety, I like the old films that show life as it was in the old days. Going back to the tin roofs is that what the Ausies used for their "Barbie's"
. Cheers John.

Re: Prefabricated Homes.
Hello JC
Yes I recall telling about that .22 I got for my 14th it was something I will always remember! As you see in that Pic my Dad had one as long as I can recall, and getting a new shiny one was something else!
My dear friend Richard that I was also telling you about passed away some Years ago now,and that was a terrible shock to me,as we were always together, like Brothers, and looked out for each other.
My Mum took him into her Heart too and treated him just like one of us!
He unfortunately did not have a very good homelife!
Those Bicycle Rides were good days and I still have all those Memories
Oh as said so many times before why did that all have to end! It I am sure breaks Hearts all over when we sit and think of the good old days.
No I have never seem that film "The Hellions" but have seen the other one!
Yes I too just love all the really good old Movies, there are so many .
Will have to look that one up,as I have many old Films that I download from YouTube full versions, its really good to be able to do that!
I put it on my External Drive and then hook up to the TV so can then watch on the Big Screen! Fantastic!
Will let you know if I find that one on You Tube!
All the best JC
Cheers
