i think the most dangerous thing to health today is the modern technology people sitting playing games for hours on end the blood pressure rising when they cant complete the games I wonder the death rate of people walking in front of traffic on the roads I see it every day walking the dog the other week a lad walked full on into a lamp post and nearly got myself killed on a crossing by a woman texting while driving so what is the biggest drug on the planet ourselves ??? my mobile went into a draw in the kitchen 3 years ago the best day ever? jp

Our generation has seen more change than any other. Containerization that saw the demise of our cargo fleets, computers and advanced technology, space exploration of the moon and planets, the European Union, countries without borders. The east overtaking the west in manufacturing and production. Modern warfare were it is possible to bomb and fire missiles in distant countries by a man with a computer screen in Lincolnshire U.K.
As we race toward 2016 some things have never changed, millions still fighting in wars of religion. The rich are still getting richer while the poor are getting poorer as it has always been.

The 60's were known as the "hippy" generation. Flower power, Women's Lib. etc. all at the forefront during that era. Smoking cannabis or taking more exotic drugs almost became the norm amongst teenagers and those in their 20's, all wanting to emulate their rock and film star heroes . It was the generation that first venerated these people, elevating them to almost god like status. The birth control pill "gave women control over their own sexuality" leading to a generation of single parent families where having a child out of wedlock did not carry the social stigma that it had previously.
This generation of single parent families went on to breed another generation of single parent families but the U.K. economy and its lower population numbers were able to support them. Coupled with a rush of immigration from the sub continent the population grew rapidly, the easy availability of drugs became the norm so young people turned to crime to feed their habits which, coupled with undoubted crime levels resulting from immigrants coming from countries that had a different culture and outlook on life to the native population led to an increase in crime. Previously violent crime was related to gang crime committing bank robberies and controlling the sex trade but never really affecting the general population (think Kray brothers).
With the advent of cheap electronic devices, the Internet etc. coupled to a growing population crime shot up especially drug related crime. Just look at your local newspaper and see how many persons are charged with robbing mobile phones to feed their drug habit, often targeting older people and how many raids are made on drug farms growing cannabis, its a daily occurrence. The ineptitude of our politicians over the previous 40-50 years coupled with the every more strident P.C. and human rights brigade has left where criminals go unpunished, youths are happy to sit at home taking drugs and playing violent video games then going out to mug some poor sole in order to feed their drug habit. The down turn in economies world wide has made the situation worse and the rise of terrorism carried out in the name of Al**h has made a bad situation even worse along with those immigrants of a certain faith failing to understand that if you emigrate to another country you abide by the laws of that country rather than trying to make them change to suit your beliefs.
World wide there is a dearth of politicians who have the gumption to stand up to these people and to get to grips with todays society and change it for the better, even if it means going back in time to when, as said, people looked after and respected each other, crime was contained by a slap round the head by your local bobby who knew all the local "bad boys" .

Since the end of WW2 man has progressed more so than in all the years before. We now know there is water on Mars, what next one may ask? There is talk of aircraft so fast it will only take four hours from Oz to UK and that may not be more than ten year away. But for every advancement her is something that goes, for example the use of smart phones and texting has seen the post office become almost extinct.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

    Hi Louis,
The poor are certainly Not getting poorer. Compared to my childhood in the 30s and 40s, todays "Poor" are like millionaires.
They do not know what poverty is today.
A social worker told me that if the kid next door has a £500 I-pad and your kid hasn't then that is poverty . What a load opf crap.
I lived in a house with stone floors, no carpets, ,no heating just an open fire and had to go on the Tips to scrabble for clinker to burn. No bathroom , no toilet and just a Midden at the bottom of the yard. Three of us in one bed, fighting for the shallow end, an first WW1 Army overcoat on top to keep us warm Parents had to sell the chairs and only allowed two chairs for parents to sit on, kids had to stand at the table. That was from the man from the Parish. No Benefits, no housing allowance, no child allowance, NOTHING. No TV, No Radio, No bloody I-pads No nothing.
    and we were still Happy.
All we have today is a bunch of whinging bums and stiffs who want everything for nothing, , gimme , gimme,
So do not tell me a load of left wing commie pinko trot, crap.
I know Poverty first hand, I know what it was like to be poor.
It made me a stronger man, it made me get off my ass and work for what I have got.

As my dear old dad used to say in his Lancashire accent,"Theres nowt for nowt in this life lad, if tha wants any money you must bloody well work for it."

    Cheers

the word in the gaudian report jim is RELATIVE poverty ....any poverty regarding children in this country is down to parents ......the children suffer because of the drug and alcoholism of the so called parents .....who cannot cook a meal which is nutricious.....but can constantly make the rich food providers even richer by living off macdonalds ...kentuckys etc .....mince and tatties with a cabbage for veg costs nothing ......i was once very poor compared to my ships captain .....but that is RELATIVE...... the only reason for child poverty in this country parents regards cappy

    Thanks for that Jim
    But what is Relative Poverty??
relative to what,? the kid next door has more toys than this one. so that is Relative.
    .
I was talking about Real Poverty, when some one has Nothing and there is No means of getting anything.
We experienced that in the 30s and 40s, before the benefits started.
I see the unemployed in my avenue and living next door to me, , They all have cars, some two car families, all their benefits are TAX FREE, all are on more in Benefits than I am on with my miserable MN Pension that I paid for myself and pay £1,200 a year in Taxes on it.They all get housing allowance as they live in rented property, They do not pay Council Tax, I do, £1,300 a year, so out of my miserable MN Pension I have to pay a total of £2,500 a year in Taxes.
The Net figure leaves me in net terms in "Poverty."
I cannot claim one penny because I was stupid enough to buy a MN Pension.
I was stupid enough not to spend my redundancy pay from ESSO instead of investing it wisely, that is what I am now spending, if I had spent it when I got it I would now be able to claim Pension Credit and other benefits, so sometime you just cant win.
    Cheers
    Brian..

Cappy, you have it in one. Here in Oz same thing, parents that think they come first cannot cook, do not know how to look after the kids then blame the system for their problems. We see them on the current affair progams pleading for help and there are some who feel sorry for them . I feel sorry for the kids but not the parents. You have to get a licence to drive but having kids you can do as you please, then the gov will give you the hand outs.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
