Re: syria
Re-reading some of these posts, nothing is going to be achieved by the west going in and interfering in others domestic squabbles. We should first look at our own sense of values and see ourselves as others see us. 50 years ago we had double the morals we have today, people went to church and up held the Bible and the ten commandments as the way to go. We are very much not that way inclined today. Homosexuality is considered a virtue, criminals get away with a slap on the wrist, sexual depravity and debauchery now exists where before it was more accountable to the law of the land. People if they know the system never have to do a days work in their life. In fact the morals of the western world are now governed by the practicability of an easy and slothful and well eased manner of lifestyle and how you get there is immaterial.
On the other side of the coin you have religious fanatics who are still in line with their Holy writings of 3000 years ago, and life has not advanced with the lowering of such standards as the western world. they prefer to stay at the same level as their ancestors lived at. Unfortuanetley they can also see the advancements that a huge majority of their own people want to advance like the west has done. Due to bad governance in the west, it has taken sides in disputes they know nothing about and egged on by the do gooders of this world who also are badly informed of the true situation in these countries, have given western weapons to governments which are trying to hold back the fanatical, which in a brief space of time turn up in the wrong hands, and now have fanatics with 3000 year ideals fighting with 21st century weaponry. Every time a western bomb falls in the middle east there is going to be innocent casualitys and is the biggest weapon of propaganda to their cause, and must draw thousands to their banner. In an ideal situation a razor wire fence would be put round the whole of the middle east, and for the west to keep their noses out of what does not concern them. Things are well in line as they were thousands of years ago in the times of ancient Egypt and Babylon who was the villain of the piece in certain eras of time and still is. These conflicts started before the 12 tribes of Israel existed and will go on for many more centuries. They all survived before the western world existed and will do so again if left to their own devices. JS

John, In order to maintain a sense of balance to your premiss should the reader assume you include Russia amongst those malicious interlopers from the western world who have interfered in the affairs of Syria and the Middle-east? If not, it might seem that you're O.K. with the idea that Russia (in support of Assad) be allowed special dispensation to drop cluster-bombs on innocent civilians (as they did yesterday in Idlib, Syria, when they 'flattened'' a girls school and other civilian buildings). Members familiar with your repeated condemnation of western interferference in Syria and the middle-east (though not without some justification) might also note that your criticism of Russia' s part in this modern tragedy is virtually non-existent. Forgive me for making the point, but perhaps a little less bias (whether intended or not) would have given added value to your otherwise interesting post.

Re: syria
I include all outsiders outside of the Middle East. Russia is a late comer into the conflict but as she has supposedly allied herself with the so called countries of the willing to wage war of course she is included. I wouldn't go as far as to call them malicious your words not mine, ill informed were my words. Probably have lengthened any resurrections going on by lengthy periods. Any peace in these countries can only come about by the people of these countries themselves. If what we read in the press is correct most of the rebel groups fighting the regime in Syria, aren't even Syrians. JS

Re: syria
Just as a thought, how do you think if during the UKs struggle with the IRA, another country or countries had jumped in and demanded the sacking of the UK government. For all the so called Civil war in Syria, to have such the Ruling party must have a large amount of the population on his side or he would not have survived. Like Hitler he survived because he was supported by the majority of the national population. Regardless of the information pushed out by the media a lot of which is propaganda, the same as the world wars we were involved in. I wouldn't mind betting a large proportion of the refugees are pro Assam or whatever he is called. I see one point these journalists shy away from is asking them. May interfere with whatever slant they want to take in the media. JS

John, during the long-running 'troubles' in Ireland the British Government was sometimes guilty of harsh and unwise treatment of the civilian population, however, as far as I'm aware they did not countenance the mass-slaughter of 250,000 civilians, neither did they seek the assistance of another state to carry out such atrocity on their behalf. Had they done so, they too would have received the wrath and contempt of the civilised world and rightly so. Rather than present a reasonable comparison you seek to equate the position of Assad in Syria with that of the British Government in Ireland which, IMO, is not valid. Furthermore, your suggestion that the well reported act of democide in Syria might easily be another contrivance by a malicious media begins to stretch the boundaries of credibility. That being the case, you must choose what you want to believe....so will I.
