#1... Keith I knew someone on a vessel I was on for a number of years when working for the MOD. He was an R.O. but had his title changed when the R.O.s went with the modern times. He moved over to the Isle of Wight for reasons probably similar to yours. I went over to see him one time and can agree with you at the time of my visit it was a very nice place to live, away from the maddening crowds. With the advent of tourism from the Middle East however I would imagine you may be suffering from the same malady, if not soon will be. If you have a deep freeze suggest you get stocked up with pork, as soon may be shortages of. Would imagine also by now the Shetlands also have their tourism quotos, although a winter up there and the flow may dry up to a certain extent. People who live on small islands today are not immune from unwanted guests. My memorys of during the war however were slightly different as we had a family Father Mother and crippled son living in the same house, who escaped from Jersey when the krauts went in, he joined the British army. However in that 3 bedroom house had at times upto at least 12 people living under its roof. Must have been a forerunner of some of the housing in uk now with some of its alien inhabitants. As it was in Richmond Park Road just down from the park itself which was a huge Army Depot at the time and received frequent visitors of the Luftwaffe we used to get the odd incendiary in the street outside and used to put the old stirrup pump on when my grandfather who was an ARP man wasn't looking. I suppose by todays standards there would have been at least double that amount living in a similar house. Cheers JS

I wish John, we have got that recorded, so at the moment i dont know where on the Island it was. ````the summer season is now drawing to a close, so large parts of the Island shut down, some pubs go into winter hours, shops and cafes close, love it, peace and quiete. However,we wait to see when the hoards will arrive with our quota, kt
