Re: 29 pubs close per day
Like it or lump it, the smoking ban in public places and those serving food caused a lot of pubs to close down and also many of the working mens clubs suffered as well.

Re: 29 pubs close per day
On the run up to the smoking ban coming in the anti smoking brigade were on the radio phone in's telling how they loved going out but hated coming home smelling like an ash tray.all clothes had to go into the washer and themselves into the shower. We will be out a lot more when the smoking ban comes in they said,so the question is where are they.I must admit when I was on the train the other day coming back from the P&W it was a lovely clean train and nice fresh air and I tried to imagine it if people were smoking, and I must admit the trains are better for no smoking.

Re: 29 pubs close per day
A touch of nostalgia here. I found a site that lists all the pubs in the UK by suburb. When I was home on leave I would take my dear old mother for a pork pie and a Mackeson to The Cricketers, the only decent pub in Mitcham Surrey, (my home town). The premises overlooked the Cricket Green and had black and white photos of all the Surrey players on the walls. In fact Mitcham played the Surrey team annually and also the Australian touring sides were known to have played there. Alas and alack ; guess what, your right it has gone along with three others that will not be missed.

#1, Because, too many, smoking ban, recession in that order. We sold up the year before the smoking ban was introduced in Scotland. Two rules we had in place, always have a pleasant disposition
and serve food regardless of kitchen timetable, even if it was only soup and sandwiches. Nothing worse than a face like a nippy sweetie approaching saying kitchen's closed

Re: 29 pubs close per day
i drink sol beer its good it always tastes the same .......but can vary in the same month by 8 pounds a case to 14 pounds a case ....when its 8 i stock up ....the bar i go to is in a small village its called the ship ....a sol is 3 pounds a bottle ....i am not mean but that is not good value to me .....i see no one now drinking seven pints or so ....where years ago many would do that drinking is not what it was to me ....i would rather go out in a four or six and have a good italian or whatever.....the younger element in my sphere seem to go to the gym or are health conscious ...most have a car so are careful with the drink....we do have the druggies as do other places but allin all the pubs we knew have gone forever.....the world we new is going fast .....nice to see the benefits are being chopped frm 26000 to 23000......wonder how many on the site get 23000 pension off the government ........having worked all there lives ......why should the crap with no work ethic at all be allowed up to at the moment net 26000......for nothing......the society in general cannot prosper while this goes on......roll on the revolution......regards cappy

Re: 29 pubs close per day
Most of our pubs here have become eating and gambling venues, though some do have a small area where you can have a social drink. But more popular are the clubs, particularly in NSW, good food, plenty of gambling if you want bujt good entertainment as well.
