    Hi Chris.
    I thought that the Aral Sea dried up because Stalin diverted
    the water into canals to help with his agriculture scheme.

    The water was diverted and the remaining water, not being topped up by any source, escaped or evaporated, just like our ponds and rivers do when we have heatwave summers.
