Beautiful Fish.
I have just seen a beautiful little fish. It has been filmed 26722 feet down in the Mariana Trench.
There is a video of it in the on line version of the Daily Telegraph.
I do not know how to transfer the video onto this site, perhaps Vernon you could do the honours please, I'm sure people would be ineterested to see it. The fish is the deepest ever recorded.

Re: Beautiful Fish.
When we abandoned ship on Good Friday in 71, on the Grand Banks, some of us were picked up by a large, new, German stern trawler. It was owned by the German Fisheries Research body and had been converted too research new deep water fishing grounds and discover new breeds of edible fish. It still had the filleting machinery on board below the trawl deck but most of its freezer capacity had been removed to provide extra accommodation as it carried 50 crew, including a bunch of scientists. It was fitted with specially adapted aquariums that could simulate the conditions found at thousands of metres below the surface, where they could keep live species of new fish discovered. They had been trawling mid Atlantic down to a couple of thousand metres and had some very weird looking new species of fish which were kept in these darkened aquariums. We were on board for around 5 days before been landed in Placentia Bay in Newfoundland from where we were driven across to St. Johns, chased all the time by news crews wanting an interview with us. I was even followed by a reporter into the toilets when we stopped midway for a refreshment break and when we reached St. Johns we were driven around until we lost the news crews and then smuggled into the Holiday Inn under strict instructions never to speak to anyone about what had happened to us for fear of bad publicity to C.P.
Talking to the scientist they reckoned that there were large areas of the worlds Oceans that held large reserves of edible but undiscovered fish but due to them only been found in very deep waters the public could be put off buying them due to their very weird looks.
The Germans treated us great, even supplying items of clothing to some of us and sharing their beer ration. Pity C.P. did not treat us so well once we had landed!
Regarding that fish found in the Marianas trench, they do say that even though so called civilised man has been on the planet for well over a couple of thousand years, a new species of animal, insect, plant, fish etc. is discovered almost daily.

Beautiful fish
How does any life survive at that depth with all that pressure? The fish wasn't fazed by the camera light because it had no eyes - and no colour, either. How is it navigating? Like bats with Radar - or Huff Duff !! What would happen if it was brought to the surface? Explode? Why do they have to look weird? - or are all the fish down there looking the same?
There's just a few things to ponder over your next bag of fish and chips !

Re: Beautiful Fish.
I would suggest there are many species down there we have no concept of. I also think there are still unfound species on land.

Happy daze John in Oz.
