Global Warming
As this subject has caught the imagination of most of the worlds politicians, greens especially, nut cases in general, and all persons with wild and vivid imaginations like the old bloke who used to walk around with the sandwich boards claiming the end of the world is nigh. Maybe one of the contributory factors to climate change is much easier to qualify and could be mainly due to the worlds population exceeding days of old my many billions and thus accelerating the usage of oxygen in the earths atmosphere. Then again our scientists have not got round to explaining what effect all these people walking around with mobiles stuck to their ears probably emitting all sorts of rays, such as X-rays, Gamma rays, and any other rays the normal person hasn't studied. There is also the question of what effect if any all these rockets, spaceships and whatever is sent up such as satellites which break away from the earths atmosphere. If any damage is done to the ozone layer which a few years ago was going to kill everyone off as had been destroyed in parts by so called coal fired emissions. Personally nature will go its own course as it always had for billions of years, however I do think there should be other avenues as well as the cut off of carbon fuels as being the only thing responsible for the so called acceleration of so called climate change. Cheers JS

Re: Global Warming
Very interesting comment made here a few days ago when on epolitician said, 'government scientists say global warming is real'. No mention of the 30,000 scientists who signed the Canada agenda saying the opposite.
Couple of year ago the Cheif Oz scientist for the department loking into climate wrote a very long and interesting acticle in the national paper, he said,
"the figures we produced for the gov were purely computer generated results showing the worst possible outcome. I now know that such figures are pure science fiction, but they are the figures the gov wanted to see and had we not produced such our funding would have no doubt been cut'.
But it is interesting to note that Greenland, now much of it ice bound, was at one time just that a pure green land, and core samples taken show thta Ireland about two million years ago was tropical.
Most of the talk is politicaly generated not climaticaly, evidence shows that one volcanic eruption can put more crap into the air than man has since the industrial revolution began in 1750.

Re: Global Warming
Wonder what corresponding or equivilant to carbon deposits, all this shelling and bombing is doing. Nobody even the greens don't mention the equivilant so called damage this does as compared to coal fired appliances. This is probably not suitable for political discussion either as may put restraints on the armanents industries. All the paraphamalia that goes on about it far exceeds the supposedly dangers. I believe in the clean air act and can remember the ship being fined for making smoke in port in Australia. I think the whole argument now is to appease the politicians who have to prove themselves right whether or not is true, the money wasted could be better used in finding cures for well known illnesses. The present meeting in Queensland in itself would probably supply such funds to building hospitals and such, rather than a bunch of think they know it all mouth pieces. Wonder who supplied the fancy gear they are wearing, probably made in China anyway. I don't like the idea of the taxpayer paying for a junket for the supposedly richest nations on earth. Cheers JS

Re: Global Warming
Actually I think I'm probably responsible. The older I get, the more greenhouse gasses I seem to emit.

Re: Global Warming
Any "global warming" is caused by cutting down the Rain Forests,
Rain Forests thrive on Carbon and pump out Oxygen,
Cut down a Rain Forest, carbon will increase and Oxygen will decrease. Simple.
These MAD Greens have no idea at all of what goes on in Nature,
This is what I wrote over 20 years ago from my story "Spice Islands" of when I was in Borneo.
..............."
The rain forests have all but gone now, they have been cut down and burned to grow palm oil trees for bio fuels. This has killed off most of the wildlife including the `wild man of Borneo`, the Orang Utang, and the Dayaks displaced and their way of life destroyed. This can never ever be replaced, it has gone forever. All in the pursuit of profits and these mad people who think growing bio fuels will save the world when they are the very people who are destroying it
Since the 1970s, the Dayak have been baffled by the existence of mining projects, logging by forest concessionaires, plantations and industrial timber estates. Socio-economic expert Mubyarto said the presence of the giant projects in Kalimantan and Sabah changed the Dayaks source of wealth.
The rattan monopoly has impoverished the Dayak in East and Central Kalimantan. The gold mining in Ampalit (Central Kalimantan), coal mining in East Kalimantan and gold mining in Monterado (West Kalimantan) have caused the locals to suffer. The same thing has happened to the Dayak Bentian, Dayak Pawan-Keriau and Empurang. They struggle against the plantations, which are partly financed with foreign loans. They are forced to give their land to the investors. After the land transfer, all the plants, all the sacred places and cemeteries were demolished and replaced by palm oil trees. They are forced to pay the investors for the privilege of living on their own land in instalments.
The project ruins the environment, as well as the social, cultural and political patterns. They have marginalized the sovereignty and dignity of the Dayak over the Land and natural resources. ............."
.
Once a Rain Forest has been cut down you cannot grow another one, it has gone forever, They are the Lungs of the world.
The same is happening in the Amazon, West Africa, Philippines and everywhere else where there is a rain forest.
All Greens should be locked up in asylums, Politicians use it as an Excuse to Raise Taxes.
How gullible are people who think Taxation, will end Global Warming, what do they do with the money.???
Global warming is a Natural happening, it is an on going event since time began, 10,000 years ago where my house is, it was under 200 feet of ice. England across the English Channel was joined to froggy france with ice.
It all melted. not one vehicle in sight.
Antarctica was full of rain forests millions of years ago. It froze, now covered with ice. Underneath the ice is Oil and Coal from the old Rain Forests.
Are the Greens and Politicians so thick and stupid they do not know all that???
I despair for the Sanity of our "Rulers", I also despair that they think we are so stupid to believe them.

Re: Global Warming
I have read all of the above whilst drinking my morning cuppa and acknowledge how rational the points made are. Even Braid's amusing comment makes sense.
We are back to the ever present question of what makes these politicians blindly follow the party line. We Victorians go to the polls in two weeks, and whilst at a political rally last week I asked my local Labour candidate his views on this subject, he replied and I quote, " We have made it clear to the Abbott government that we oppose their stand on global warning." Now of course this was not an answer so I repeated my question as we were discussing Victorian matters, not national issues and I wanted his personal view. Once again he dodged the issue by answering my question with another question on my attitude to public transport, stating and again I quote, " if elected we will supply more trains and buses which will cut down on the number of cars on the road in a working week thus cutting pollution down ."
This has been standard polly speak for so long I am wearied of trying to make sense of it all. My immediate concern is that there is more tea in the pot.

Re: Global Warming
In my humble opinion man made Global Warming is a big con.
Natural cyclical warming yes.
I came across the following article a number of years ago, I leave you to comment.
This is a copy of a speech made by the President of the Royal Society to the Admiralty, November, 20, 1817.
"It will have come to your Lordships' knowledge that a considerable change of climate, inexplicable at present to us, must have taken place in the Circumpolar regions, by which the severity of the cold that has for centuries past enclosed the seas in the high Northern Latitudes in a an impenetrable barrier of ice has been, during the last two years, greatly abated."
"This affords ample proof that new sources of warmth have been opened and gives us leave to hope that the Arctic seas may at this time be more accessible than they have been for centuries past, and that discoveries may now be made in them not only to the advancement of sciences but also to the future intercourse of mankind and the commerce of nations."
