Yes, once again the bush fire season is upon us. It is bad enough without the idiots who light fires. Fire risk here in Oz is the highest in the world and we do not need idiots to light them, enough are caused by natural events. Thankfuly no one died this time and only one house lost, after the events of last year I do hope we have a much quieter season this year. Would like to think we could go through the season without any but doubt that is possible given the conditions here in Oz.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Indeed John, we've had more than average rain during winter with resultant verdant growth that will dry out as the summer heat builds up. Hot winds the like of what we have just experienced, dry lightning, strewn glass to magnify the sun, thoughtless smokers, imbeciles and of course the gum trees that have shed dry bark over winter and dried out limbs on the bush floor. Tinder dry, a spark immediately becomes a bush fire that reaches the oily eucalyptus canopy and explodes. It creates its own wind and if there is already wind and gusts all hell breaks loose. The aborigines burnt the land before the bush floor debris became the furnace. Our early settlers did the same and it worked well until the patients took over the asylum.

The photo of one of Cleo and my daily constitutionals is a prime example.

I still cant get my head around why the government and people have the same thing year after year why is there not proper forest management around cities and towns you can have green areas without highly inflammable trees close to built up areas?just a thought..jp

John, I am pleased to say that our relatively new government have started to take action accordingly. Richard

John for goodness sake man what are you saying? Have you never heard of the Greens? LOL
Each year the state gov along with the fire brigade do burn offs in an attempt to reduce the risk. The Greens will attempt to stop them saying it is the home of creatures, they have even attempted to get court orders to stop the burn off. Thankfully the courts have more sense. But in some council areas it is illegal to move tree branches thta have fallen even if they block the road, thankfully such councils are in low numbers.
