I find Ivan when registering into a motel and you have to put in book it is better that you can remember. Its even better when looking for your car in a shopping centre car park when some like me forget where you left it. As personalized plates are also blue gives you a 50/50 chance of seeing quicker. Most driving offences are speeding and these are usually caught on camera so doesnt matter what number you have. Cheers John S.

At least that lets Samuel Cunard's heirs off the hook Jacyn. However, in view of Ivan's 'form' letter and the fact that their illustrious ancestor was indeed a Canadian, the heirs could pass it off as the vernacular.

    Hi Ivan,

Yup, wouldn't be a bit surprised if that's exactly the type of reply I receive, if I even receive one at all. No harm in trying, though. It begs the question, if the map included all the Great Lakes, how would they then label Lake Huron? As two bodies of water?

All rather silly, the little things that gets one's back up. If I receive anything back, I'll let you know.

    Cheers,

    Hi Jacyn
With it being such a large scale Chart, it would not actually be used for Navigating with. just for reference,
so I should think the Lake Huron would be referred to just as a guide to the location.

But I think it would be Interesting just to get a comment from them. Wake them up from their slumbers in the Chart Office, put a bit of excitement into their dull boring lives.
Try it, they may even send you a free sample.
    Cheers

Don't forget Jacyn, Columbus when he stumbled across it whilst searching for a western passage to India thought Dominca was India and called it an island of the West Indies and that kinda stuck, still a lot of exploring left to do in 15/16/17th centuries with slow ships and on foot, things were given names because people thought that was what they were at the time, by the time the true facts were discovered centuries later the names had become internationally historical and accepted and used by cartographers whilst compiling their charts for the sake of continuity.

Hope to read your received letter in the not too distant future

It all depends on the way you look at The Globe. Imagine reversing the fact that to you I am sitting upside down with the The globe on my desk and all you in the Northern Hemisphere are upside down. The East Indies and the west Indies are correctly named.

I had already contacted the UKHO via their contact us form on the website before I got a contact name from Brian and this is the first reply received from UKHO Customer Service:

    Dear Sir:

Thank you for your e-mail. I have passed on your observations to the regional team the produces charts of North America and they have advised they will investigate the labeling of Georgian Bay and Lake Huron.

To assist us in our investigation could you please provide the number of the chart from which the your observation was made?

We look forward to hearing form you shortly and please do not hesitate to contact Customer Services should you have any questions.

As I foolishly did not take a photo of the whole chart, looks like I may dead in the water. But I've sent along the partial photo so we'll see what happens. Failing anything concrete, I will contact Capt David Robertson directly.

    Jacyn
As an afterthought, try contacting the QM2, possibly by facebook or email. Pretty sure you should be able to get in touch with the ship.
Explain to them about your correspondence with UKHMHO and ask them to give you chart number they are using.

Hi Jacyn try as John suggested, write to Chris Wells or the Staff Captain, it should be Hamish Sunter, a Yorkshire lad. I know them both,
Ask them about the Chart, They should get the Chart Number for you via the Second Mate,
or even to the address below, they should have a Chart Office there, the Chart is for all ships not just the QM2.
