Perhaps Jim,the ladies from the bag shop were sometimes responsible for the frequent visitors to that establishment with no name on the door.

How can we not see the stupidity of turning the great and rowdy Red House to rubble.

Down in its celebrated cellars I once inspected the little cubicles, “cribs” where shady ladies entertained “homeward-bounders,” sailors back from long voyages, impatient sovereigns clinking. It was first called the Railway Hotel until, maybe to advertise what was on offer in that cellar, it became the Red House, the only pub with a naval navigation lamp on it – red, naturally.

There is also a small mention of the Bucket of Blood in the feed back.

Keith or Louis the Amigo this is not a mad pub but do you know the Fox & Hounds on the Newport Road?that was my brothers local and if I remember rightly when the towel went on there we used to cross the road and go up some steps to another pub which was in a different county and closed half an hour after the Fox & Hounds.

pubs in blackpool loads of crazy names blue flamingo banigans and yes a farthers moustache best night out funny girls could go onfor evers lot of the m ar run by abloke called basil newbey a company called pink enterprises you can make your your own mind up on that one used to work the taxis talbot square yates on one side and a pub or show bar called called rumours 2 am like doge city had to know what you wear at thear blood all over the place allways got a fare back to fleetwood a lot of lads would not do it but i loved made loads of bucks could do 200 quid sat night and that was 15 years ago 1000 aweek no prob but 12 hour shifts to do it still got 2 cabs but rent them out dont drive them now let some other mad men do it

Did anyone ever frequent places called "His Father's Mustache".I believe they started up in the USA and then opened up over here.I went to one somewhere near Blackpool and it was absolutely crazy,there was a band on the stage with all the brass instruments some of the with toilet seats around there neck,they would all walk off the stage to the toilet still playing their instruments.There was a cine projector playing silent movies Charlie Chaplin etc while all this was going on and the bar staff swearing etc,I cant remember what else was going on but I know it was absolute chaos.Maybe William may remember it.

Yes Jim I used to use His Fat hers Mousthace in Greenwich Village New York when we were on our regular monthly run to NY on Cunard cargo boats in the 1960s/ It was a great night out regular lively music beer served in large jugs great atmoshpere.

Has to be the Fox & Hounds at St. Mellons, take a look at the pic at the link, let me know.

The reason for this is that now it is classed as Cardiff, I think it was in Monmouthshire, the County borders changed, Monmouth is now Gwent, but the Sunday drinking laws then would not have affected Monmouthshire. It was quite normal years ago to cross a bridge to a wet County on a Sunday. K.

"Fathers Moustache" in New Orleans. Pretty sure that was the bar where in the 80's you had two pianos on the stage back to back being played by two coloured ladies playing jazz, blues and rag time constantly. Absolutely fantastic atmosphere. The big thing was the fancy cocktails they used to serve at around $4.50 a go but you got the glass that it came in to keep, otherwise $1.5 and you got your drink in a plastic cup. The cocktails were pretty powerful stuff and all had names like Hurricane, Breeze (half the size of a hurricane) plus others I forget. There was a courtyard out the back where you could sit and drink and towards the end of the night we had so many empty glasses on our table (just me and 3rd Eng.) that when the waitress came to collect them we found that we had been paying full price for the drinks and glasses so we got a rebate that allowed us to carry on drinking. We had so much drink coming back to us that we had to invite a group of female dentists on a convention jaunt in New Orleans, to help us finish them off. Ended up missing the crew boat back to the ship so had to do a private hire which cost us almost as much as the nights drinks bill.

Keith I think the last time I was in there I was camping with my family at "Happy Valley" around about 1974 i arranged to meet my brother and his kids at the Fox & Hounds.I was driving around in the one way system i could see it but could not get to it.I dont know how many times we passed Cardiff Castle.In the end I called at a taxi office and ordered a cab not to travel in it but for him to drive there and me to follow,I had to pay him of course.Talking of St.Mellons my brother was the handyman at the St/Mellons golf club after he retired.Happy Valley,we got back from the Fox & Hounds and all kinds of fighting was going on the security guys had alsatians trying to sort it out,as soon as seven in the morning came we had a bit to eat,down tent,and away,nothing happy about that place.
