Just viewed an interview given by the footballer Sol Campbell whereas he blamed the lack of his career advancement on the fact that he is black. I would consider that statement as being racist. If I , as a white man was appearing at the MOBO (music of black origin) awards ceremony and bemoaned the fact that I'd not been considered for an award because of my ethnicity, I'm sure I would be instantly arrested and charged with 'hate crime'. To the best of my knowledge Mr Campbell is still a free man. To the man who wields the Blue Pencil I would hope this post sees the light of day as it merely illustrates the legal differences that exist between those who consider themselves to belong in a minority and the majority who don't, and perhaps that 'majority' may not be as clear as we think.

No idea who Sol Campbell is, sounds to me either a Scotsman with a good sunburn or a tin of soup. Seems to me that this card is more and more being played by disgruntled people looking for an excuse for their own failures. Think it started with the demise of the black and white minstrels. JS.

why would you have a chip on your shoulder about your ethnicity when you are earning £150/200,000 per week for something you enjoy, has he ever considered had he been of another hue he may not have been given the chances he was given. Although not a football fan the concenus of opinion seems to be he was at best mediocre rather than brilliant, why don't people count their blessings because by his own admissions, he is personable, he is intelligent, he is well liked, a team player, has leadership qualities etc etc Alice in Wonderland comes to mind

I think the racist card gets used far too often , I can just about remember boarding houses in the sixties with a no dogs , Blacks,Irish policy , and I loathe racism . We had humour where each ethnic group , Geordies , Jocks , Taffs , scousers , cockneys , all took the proverbial michael out of each other in what was taken as a harmless manor . Some comedians , and some people took the whole thing too far , my late father would have returned all non english to wherever they came from , possibly in a cattle truck . He was wildly wrong , he thought all yorkshire men were tight , and lincolnshire people in bred , if you came from Nottingham shire then you were probably half satanic . Those attitudes had to change , but like everything , the change has gone too far . Poor old Sol Campbell he is so traumatised by racism that I bet he struggled to pick up the £100,000 a week he got in wages , just because hos dad named him after a mexican Beer he probably had his whole life affected . It is time some people grew up !, Thinking about it isn't Mexican Beer Cappy's favorite tipple , maybe he is Sols Dad

Glad to see the usual responses to a somewhat delicate post have not disappointed, although the comments regarding certain members members hint of a little exaggeration perhaps- Should have gone to Specsavers. Beauty (and length) IS in the eye of the beholder.
