Smile Its worth a phone call.

This morning had an unsolicitated email from Age Uk.
It was asking if I claimed any benifits and if not to fill ithe an attached questionaire ito see if I was entitled to anything.
I filled it in which took about 4/5 minutes.
The result was that I was entiltled to just under £10.00p per week Council Tax Support. (According to Age UK)
I'd never heard of it so I've just rang the Council and sure enough there is such a Benifit but I had to ask for it by sending in a form which they would supply me with. If my wife and are entitled it will be credited from the day they have the completed application fom.
I told her that between us we had 4 private pensions besides our Old Age Pension and she said that she was aware of that as its on my file, she knew to the penny how much we were in reciept off. I asked her how she knew that and she laughd and replied, "You would be suprized how much information we do have." She asked where i had heard of the Benifit from. I told her Age UK and she replied "They are very good and they are usually correct" I asked why people ar not informed of these Benifits and was told that it was not the Councils Policy but If a claim is made and you qualify it will be paid as it is an entitlement.
I have asked for the forms.
Lets see what happens when I submit them. They have to be submitted within 30 days of them sending them to you.
Its worth a look on the site if you think you might be entitled to something after all we have all paid our taxes.

    Best of luck chaps,

    John Albert Evans.

Hi, John hope all is well in your world mate, Funny thing is I also got a phone call this morning, It was a cold call from a welfare rights benefit centre asking me a few questions ? it appears I am entitled to a little more money. The thing to remember is there is £1,000,000s unclaimed every year that people don't know they are entitled to. Anyone gets a call I couldn't agree more its worth 5 minutes of your time good luck lads Terry.

    Hi Terry,

I think I'd be a bit more cautious from a 'cold call' on the phone but Age UK is a well known charity and it appeared to be known by Powys Council.
Its worth getting on their website and filling in the questionaire just to satisfy your curiosity like I did. It tells you there and then what if anything you are entiled to. Its up to you then if you want to be in touch with your local council.

I remember I was classed as my wifes carer although I did'nt receive any payment as I was in receipt of more than £42pw.I received the paper work year after year for a few years so I contacted them and asked why were they sending me this paperwork when I was'nt receiving any benefit from it.I was told this was for me to claim other benefits such as a reduction on the rates.I had been paying full rates,I contacted the council they told me I was entitled to a rate rebate but they could not back date it.So I had been paying full rates for at least 5 years when I could've paid at a reduced rate.As you say if you dont know nobody will tell you.
    Regards.
    Jim.

    Ref 1#,

I got the result yesterday re my applicaion.

Reply NOT ENTITLED to a rebate.

    It didn't suprize me.

What does annoy me though is that im 74 wife 71, we have both worked all our life from the age of 16 paid our taxes and national Insurances, never claimed any benifit as no doubt have the people on this site. We live in a pensioners bungalow, these are for people over 65 years of age.

My next door neighbour lives in the attached bungalow to ours he is 52 years of age, He has never worked all his life, his rent and council tax are paid for, he has a bus pass because he is classed as disabled, our nearest hospital is 30 miles away, we pay our own tavelling expences when we need the hospital which is quite a lot recently, when he needs the hospital he phones his social worker who arranges a taxi for his return journy. His phone bill is paid for as well. His disability is that he is an ALCOHOLIC. he was recently sent to a rehab centre for three months at a cost of £6000.00p. per month total £18000.00. He was kicked out of there when he was caught drinking vodka. The day after he came home three weeks ago he was drunk out of his mind.He has been drunk ever since every day. This morning he showed me a letter from the DHSS to say that his weekly allowance has been increased to £177.50 per week, he also gets a mobiltiy allowance of £54.00 per week, he hasnt got a car. He gets other allowances as he has five children by three different ladies but he is not married. He has been to jail three times for drunk driving, assault and arson. Perhaps that is were the welfare money is all going but you cannot tell that to the polititions.
