    Default The general election approaches

As we approach the election everything starts to look rosy, GDP up, unemployment down, i wonder what little sweetener we will be given in the next few months?, the future suddenly is looking bright. They must think we are bloody stupid. I dont believe a word these lying shite hawks say. Mr Cynical KT

What amuses me this crowd want todo away with the free TV licence for over 75's.They now want the BBC to pay for it,is this to simple, why not print a licence for the pensioner designed to that effect and no money would have to change hands.

But they already do Jim and the Licence is valid for three years, renewed automatically if your death hasn't been registered in the meantime, before 75 you get a 10% discount if you are blind, now that is useful.

Ivan the point I am making is, is it necessary for money to change hands for this licences? Is it not all government money in the end one way or another. The cost to the government to issue the free licences is £600millionp.a. is there any need for it to cost any money is what I am saying.Imagine the BBC having to find this money how much the licence fee will go up for those who have to pay for it.

Thankfully we do not have TV licence here in OZ. But it makes little difference as the progs are mainly crap anyway. The best shows, very often on ABC, are usualy from UK, the British productions are still some of the worlds best.

#6... Apart from the programmes being 80 percent rubbish, what annoys me they cant run to their programme times and are quite often running up to half an hour late, and then are quite often a different programme than what is advertised, this apart from the excessive long advert sessions. It is appropriately called free TV, no one would bother paying for such a dismal service apart from the advertisers. The ABC supposed to be neutral has definite tendencys of a leaning to the far left, and does the country no service in some of its very outspoken and mostly incorrect news programmes. John S.

Jim from having to watch similar crap happen here the issue is not about licences or anything else it is to make sure that they keep that department functioning so as to make lucrative positions available for when they have to change troughs. As I understand it here in Oz there is a minute amount of taxpayers money paid to the ABC here to keep it running. Wonder how long before our bloody lot of parasites get the idea of starting up another office to deal with licences like the UK.
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.

There was a time when Oz had TV licence, but the size of the country made it almost impossible to police so it was dropped.
