Re: Aid money
You would have been safe Brian you are at least sixty years out of his age range . He used to travel to Jersey via Sealink , his driver was distinctly odd , I understand he has been pulled into the inquiry now
.
.
He has had his arm round my shoulders a couple of times and Anne had the same. Maybe we could sue his Estate for a few bob. A lot of them got £30,000 each. Missed out there.

Re: Aid money
I have zero tolerance for kiddie fiddlers But have always even bothered by Savillegate , how many young groupies. Bragging at a young age that they as screwed Jimmy now became hurt victims , the victims deserve justice , but I wonder w any angers on there are .
I in truth found him a hinderance , on the ferries especially doing Jersey , Guernsey , Cherbourg , Portsmouth , lunch could be a problem to fit in the Steward faffed around sorting Jimmy's needs and forgetting we had 6 stand bys in three hours

#10.. Richard looking back to the early 70"s, I was probably too green to know it at the time but have thought about it since. Trying to get out of Teheran, was 3 days in a hotel waiting for a flight to Australia. At the airport was expected to buy my way through Immigration. On same flight was the British manager of the airport being deported. If same happened today would have a few more misgivings. John Sabourn

Re: Aid money
#33 Rob we have an advert out here on tele think it is save the children or something like that. Shows an Indian female youngster and says she will be married at 14. This is no crime in these countries, where do these people come from, this has been going on all through my lifetime. Probably since time began. Why all of a sudden is there this call for other countries to discontinue their cultures and follow the West, which in most cases is decadent. With modern technology all they do is switch their TVs on and watch the Gay Mardi Gras in Sydney, does anyone ask them their thoughts on this. in a perfect world they would stay in their own countries and live by their own laws and morals, without interference from others. Half the worlds problems started with the missionaries bringing disease and other things into those what we considered backward cultures. A lot of them had cultures when we were living in the stone age. John Sabourn

Re: Aid money
What disturbs me John is the facts never emerged during Saville's life , but there is a claim culture here now , if it does not suit get a no win no fee lawyer . The slightest car accident has whiplash attached to it , we pay via our premiums . I wondered if there was no Saville estate to claim against how many would come forward . We have a save the children advert here showing the is dry of some of the kids in India , I have no problem fixing that , but we need to get our children herein to a perfect World first

Re: Aid money
To me India first and foremost is their own problem to put right. If they can afford to go to Mars they have no need for money for so called needy children. India is also a democracy so should have no trouble in dispensing their wealth throughout their own peoples, if they don't, tough titty their problem. The adverts you see are like the one about oil discharges at sea, the sea bird that was held up in front of the cameras must have been more photographed than any Attenboroughs wild life shows. India is only one country that the uk pumps taxpayers money into, I'll bet the show on your tv recently about such would only have been partially true and would have been censored before going to air. Re: Aid money
#25... Brian I can see your frustration with politicians, which most of us agree with. I suppose we were brought up with the facts told to us by our parents that these were the brains and had the competency to be able to run the country. Their educational qualifications I have severe doubts about regardless of what public school they went to and what seat of so called higher learning they frequented. A good few years ago I had a letter from a member of the cabinet of the government at the time, the signature on this letter can only be described as what one would expect from a 6 year old. I know most GPs when writing out prescription etc have a reputation for this, but a minister of the crown who can hardly sign his name to me is not a vey good advert. The same bloke still holds high position in society. This is the kind of people who run governments and even talk about education for our youngsters, they should first go back themselves and learn how to read and write. I have his signature pinned to the wall in my office, no one has yet been able to guess it first time. What a mangy lot they are. Regards John Sabourn

Brian you are not alone, we here in Oz are now suffering similar thansk to the last Labor gov who ran up a debt bigger than our economy. Not bad when you think 6 years ago when they came to office we had a surplus.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Aid money
Rob I said that at the beginning on these pages I believe at the time the condemnation by some people was appalling, just sheep with mob ha good word like mentality? Then similarly with Rolf Harris, it was a time when-that i.e. groupies threw themselves at anyone to do with the pop scene. Are we to say that some of the nurses or other delightful ladies we partook enjoyment with were of age maybe not 13 but...? 'When in a glass house do not heave a stone.' How after so long can this even be investigated is beyond me. What about the statute of limitations? Trial by media with of course some smoke.
John, yes Tehran was a horror story as much of M/E. Knew a Scotsman, a mate of ours who was with his wife & kids woken at midnight told to pack one case each & leave taking nothing else, no money nothing. He lost everything silly t'wat had his funds in a bank there instead of out of the country (paid) Tripoli far more scary for me, one of our guys was put in the dungeon there for, ha ha corruption. He was paying off the army who used to force themselves into the transporting of our requirements. He got out after the Dutch authorities pulled some strings or paid some money all after three months. Our US Co could do zero for all its trying. I was nabbed in Addis Ababa 1974 when the Haile Selesse was deposed. That was so scary as all foreigners were rounded up during the night & imprisoned in this sort of stadium for three days. They also brought them in from outlying areas in army trucks. We thought we were going to be shot as we could hear shooting going on all through the days & nights which for sure was executions. When were were released & given 36 hours to get out or.....we did not take a plane, rather we got out via road as we felt much safer doing that. Never forget it, flatulence was our turbo driver. We go there now twice a year love it but those memories still come back to me every time. Richard
