For Louis my Amigo:
QUOTE=Louis the Amigo;125694]Hi Shipmates, Hi Keith my barry buddy, was the Scarmouche in City road? Bessemer road fruit market had a bar that was open 24x7days for lorry drivers only? The arts club and the old 21 club did a lock inn service for the few . Much more fun to drink outside legal hours back then.[/QUOTE]
Scaramouche was in City Road: Was not really legal - Sunday afternoon, but all the entertainers went there. If you were in the know, not only could you get a bevvie, but they all did turns: The best free entertainment ever.
You must have gone to the Blue post, Queen Strret: Police pub, always open: In the days when the local Cardiff CID, could fit you up faster than BURTONS. The cabbies on St. Mary street catered for taxi drivers and hardly ever shut. Itwas up above the Prince of Wales.
London wise: The market pubs were great: catered for the workers, many a pint or two at silly o'clock.

Hi Shipmates, Hi Keith my barry buddy, The blue lamp was upstairs in queen st , I had a few pints there with the Chairman Mr Frank Kirby he is still going strong at 90+yrs from canton division, his brother Jack was the chairman of the Canton libs he is not with us any longer, What I still remember about the place{Blue lamp} is you could buy any thing there off the double ringer, he was the boss of all the customs officers in south wales at that time. I look forward to meeting you soon I have much to talk to you about .

No, you are correct. they had a brew known as 'near beer' it had an alcohol content of less than two percent.
