    Having looked at the recent Quiz question 'What ship' I did not find it unusual that someships which have a POR they could never visit,eg LONDON,BIDEFORD(Readon Smith)WHITBY(Headlam) WEST HARTLEPOOL/HARTLEPOOL(ROPNER),MANCHESTER(Manchester Vagaurd&Venture),ARDROSSAN(Baron)CARDIFF(Graig) to name but a few.(I bet you can add to the list)

    Then there are Countries like Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Mongolia, which are all land locked, but have ocean going ships registered there.

    Default Registration choices

    The ports chosen are often those with the best owner protection, not just for costs but for legal issues also.

    Many US flag vessels are registered in Wilmington Delaware. That state largely controlled by the Duponts is very owner friendly.

    Although not the best at answering the quiz, was suprised all the info contained appears to be gone ? Anyone know what happened ?

    There was a yacht from Switzerland that won the Americas Cup a few years back. Must have practiced on the snow slopes.
