    Default Boat People

Ref. the recent arrival of a so called immigrant boat at Geraldton W.A. I am still waiting for the politicians, the press, and our so called Border protection re. Maritime Authoritys to question the validity of the claims made by the occupants. Anybody with the slightest bit of intellect with a little bit of nautical knowledge would query such claims made. To sail a boat of that size over 3000 nautical miles with 44 persons on board with enough fuel and water, the boat would have been submerged. The occupants all appeared in good health so they must of either sailed from somewhere not too far distant or called in for replenishments on passage. The press should, if they were interested have pointed this out, the government made the general public aware, and the maritime authoritys must all have panamanian qualifications. Or on the other hand maybe they are all aware of these facts but dont think the general public should know as it is none of their business. What a load of crock some of these people are. Cheers John Sabourn.

In reply to #20, yes M. Thatcher would not have put up with all this crap. She said UK should not addopt the Euro and was proven correct. If this low life is that bad the get rid of him, but EU says no, so he stays. The situation will continue in UK until someoen with balls tells the EU where to get off. The concept of a common market as laid out by C.DeGaulle after WW2 was a market place, not a controlling body. If there are to be such rulkes then all countries within EU must become states of EU with all working towards a common goal. But trust me, that will never happen.

Ref. my post 22. Thought I had better check my statement. The only nautical publication I have left is Nories Nautical Tables. Using same and book gives position of Colombo as 6... 57N 79 51E Geraldton 28 48S 114 34E. Working on a Mercator Sailing( navigators will lknow what I am talking about) I know mercator is accurate up to 600 miles so the distance may be out by about 10 miles maxinum. Gives a Course of S46E and a distance of 3282 nautical miles. It took me less than 10 minutes to work this out, some things never leave you. If no one has as I said questioned the validity of these persons statements it leaves me totally bewildered, also they stated they were making for NZ. Cheers John Sabourn.

They werent even flying a quarantine flag, never mind requesting a pilot. However believe they asked which way to NZ. Should have been directed back to Indonesia where I still think was their last departure point. Cheers John Sabourn

I wonder if they have a `Mother ` ship with a thousand or so passengers and they sail down the coast looking like a normal trading vessel, and then launch a small boat with immigrants in to land at lovely places like Geraldton. #22 post John.
A good Maritime war memorial on the hill there overlooking the ocean.
    Cheers

There is every possibility that is where they came from. There is no way that boat sailed from Sri Lanka, though those on board may be from there. Why the heck did the authorities not refuel them and point the boat in the direction of NZ. That is where they were going to, we is full here anyway.
