Default Sixpence in the Christmas pudding

    Hey Terry,
Your mention of the sixpence in the christmas pudding reminded me of a play that I saw on the TV many years ago. Picture this; Austin 1100 in a gas station in Greenock, the husband is holding the new self-serve pump in his hand and looking at the pump with a puzzled look on his face. When his wife pauses between thumpings that she's dishing out to the unruly kids in the back seat, she asks him, " Whit's keeping you" to which he replied, " I'm trying to work it oot". "Work it oot" she says, " You couldnae work a tanner oot a dumpling". Brilliant!!!

Remember Christmas 1947, trying to keep warm in bed underneath old Army greatcoats, ice an inch thick on the INSIDE of the windows, chillblanes on the fingers holding your hands too close to the candles! Eeee, them were the days! Regards T.G.

Sounds as tho` you were in my bed Tony, just as I remember. cold winter that year.
I remember queing up at the gas works for a bag of coke, not that kind of coke, 6 pence a sack full.In heavy snow. An old man dropped dead at my feet with the cold. First time I saw a man die. Terrible winter,
